Are you interested in learning about the latest nutrition “hot” topics?  If so, you are in luck as Nutrition Talks is back for the Fall 2018 Semester!  The Employee Wellness Program is excited to offer a series of informative nutritional talks, all presented by experienced dietitians who teach in the Dietetics Program.  Also, due to our love of food, a light meal will be served at each session!

The Skinny on the KetoDiet – Tuesday, September 18th  (5:15 – 6:30 PM)
Few diets have gotten more press lately than ketogenic (Keto) diet! It seems like everyone is wondering: What is it? Is it safe? Does it help with weight loss? In this Nutrition Talk, you will learn about the history of the ketogenic diet, the nutritional requirements of the diet, and what occurs in your body when “in ketosis.” Additionally, research will be presented about the KetoDiet and weight loss (short- and long-term), Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, and other conditions. Finally, key long-term considerations and possible side effects of the KetoDiet will be discussed.

Intermittent Fasting: An Expert's Opinion – Thursday, October 18th  (5:15 – 6:30 PM)
Similar to the KetoDiet, Intermittent Fasting (IF) and other fasting-type diets have received a lot of buzz recently. In this session, a trusted local dietitian will overview the basic premise of IF, describe what happens in the body during fasting, and present a summary of research conducted with IF and weight loss. Likewise, you will learn about the pros and cons of this approach to eating and come away with practical tips to incorporate into your day-to-day eating routine.

Good Food, Good Mood: The Effect of Food on Emotions – Thursday, November 29th  (5:15 – 6:30 PM)
Do you “eat your feelings”? Or perhaps you get “hangry” when you skip meals or snacks. Come learn about the fascinating relationship between the food we eat and our emotional health. This Nutrition Talk will also highlight the latest research in how nutrition and gut health correlate with depression and anxiety. You will also learn simple, easy steps in improving your gut health to reduce stress, anxiety, and your risk for chronic disease while improving energy levels and emotional well-being.
