Spring 2019 - Cooking Talks

Are you in need of healthy cooking and meal prep ideas? Are you interested in learning how to maximize your grocery items while preventing food waste? If so, then join us for fun, educational, and interactive cooking classes led by our experienced registered dietitians and faculty members. A light meal/snacks will be served at each session. You will also take home what you cook!

Cost: $10 per class (noncredit fee waiver eligible)
Registration is required.

Powering Up with Pressure Cookers- Wednesday, February 20th  

Time: 5:15 – 6:45 PM

Perhaps you were gifted a pressure cooker for Christmas but don't know where to start? Or maybe you have had one for ages yet need some new ideas? Join us to learn basic (and advanced) skills with these powerful and efficient appliances! This session will open your eyes to the versatility of pressure cookers, and you will leave with a wealth of knowledge (and several yummy recipes) to better prepare healthy, fast, and tasty meals!  While we will use the InstaPot Multi-Cooker in this session, the information presented will be applicable to most other brands of pressure cookers.

Canning with Carmen: Jams and Jellies– Wednesday, March 20th

While canning has been around for centuries, it has risen in popularity lately due to its eco-friendly and easy approach to preserving food. In this Cooking Talk, you will learn how easy it is to make fresh, holiday jams, jellies, and syrups (both regular and reduced-sugar versions) using the Ball Jam and Jelly Maker. Then, you will make several jars of holiday goodies (in less than an hour!) to take home and enjoy.

Canning with Carmen: Time to Salsa!– Monday, April 29th

Who doesn’t love a tasty, homemade salsa? In this Cooking Talk, you will learn how to make an easy and flavorful salsa for canning that is safe, uses fresh vegetables and simple ingredients, and is thicker than typical canned salsas. Come join us and create your own salsa! Each participant will make at least two jars of salsa to take home!
