Research and professional interests

Jerry Hoover is the Director of Bands at Missouri State University, where he supervises a student offering of eighteen bands. He personally directs the Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, Varsity Band, several entertainment ensembles, and the 320-member Pride Marching Band. After twenty years in the public schools (Cabool, Lebanon, and Jefferson City) where he developed award-winning concert, marching, and jazz bands, he accepted the band position at New Mexico State University where he remained for seven years. He has been in his present position at Missouri State since 1985. Mr. Hoover has been the subject of many honors throughout his tenure in the public schools and university setting.  As a public school educator, Hoover was recently awarded the Lebanon Community Achievement Award and inducted into Lebanon's Wall of Fame. The National Bandmasters Association awarded him with a "Citation of Excellence"  and President Ronald Reagan sent him a personal Letter of Commendation for his work with bands.  His work with the bands connected with the Lions Clubs International found him being named a Melvin Jones Fellow, the Lions Clubs' highest "international" award.  At New Mexico State University, Hoover was recognized by New Mexico Governor Toney Anaya, declaring a statewide "Jerry Hoover Day" for his work with bands. Mr. Hoover is past president of the Missouri Chapter of Phi Beta Mu and is the Music Director of the London-based "Youth Music of the World," overseeing New Year's Day parades in London and Paris, and the "Easter in Maastricht" Music Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was recently inducted into the Missouri Music Educator's "HALL OF FAME", for his distinguished service in music education.  In October, 2005, Missouri State University honored Mr. Hoover, and declared a "Jerry Hoover Day" in recognition of his achievements with the University Band program and his contributions to the community and band programs throughout the state.
