Advisement

Guiding your academic path

The music department faculty is committed to helping you plan and schedule your courses to successfully fulfill University requirements and to achieve your academic and career goals. All music majors must audition to be a music major or minor. Once you are accepted into the program, plan to meet with your academic advisor at least once a semester to ensure that you are on track with your studies.

Undergraduate advising

To be assigned an advisor, contact the department of music at Music@MissouriState.edu, located in Ellis Hall 200. If you have forgotten who is assigned as your advisor, log in to My Missouri State and select the Student tab, then Student Profile link.

Once you have been assigned an advisor within the department, you can contact him or her directly to schedule appointments for advising.

Graduate advising

If you are pursuing a Master of Music degree, contact Dr. David Hays or Dr. Jason Hausback, directors of graduate studies, for advising assistance. You must receive advisor release prior to registering for each semester of graduate study. Graduate students are also required to submit an advisor approved program of study to the Graduate College before 14 hours have been completed.

Transfer student advising

If you are a transfer student, contact the department head, Dr. Paula Patterson, for advising assistance.
