National Incident Management System (NIMS)

Overview

The National Incident Management System (NIMS) training is part of the emergency response training available for our University Emergency Responders and leadership. The NIMS training program is part of the Emergency Management Institute (EMI) and includes standardize courses on multi-agency incident command and management, organizational structure, and operational procedures; discipline-specific and agency-specific incident management courses; and courses on the integration and use of supporting technologies. These courses are provided both online and in classroom settings for participants. Please refer to the Missouri State University NIMS training matrix for course training recommendations based on position and job responsibilities during an emergency response.

Online course information and documenting completion

Online course information

The online courses are self-paced courses designed for people who have emergency management responsibilities and the general public. Some of the courses will require the participant to download and print the information; while others are interactive and can be completed online. Each independent study course includes lessons with practice exercises and a final examination. The completion time for each course is approximate and may take less or more time dependent on the individual learner. Participants will need to score 75 percent or better to be issued a certificate of achievement from the Emergency Management Institute (EMI).

Documenting course completion

Employees will need to download their completion Certificate from the FEMA Emergency Management Institute (EMI) website after successfully completing their online class and submit online for credit through My Learning Connection. This online user guide provides step by step instruction for downloading your Certificate from the Emergency Management Institute and how to submit the Certificate along with required information to request credit for your online transcript in My Learning Connection. Employees who are required to complete the training as outlined on the Missouri State University's NIMS training matrix must submit their Certificates and completion information through My Learning Connection for documentation.

Employees can view their online transcripts in My Learning Connection under the My Learning Portfolio tab. Please refer to this online help video for instructions and assistance: How Do I Access My Transcript.

If you have questions or need additional assistance with this process, please contact HR Employee Development and Performance at 417-836-5779/4592.
