Education Abroad Grant

The Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) and Education Abroad Grant provides Missouri State University faculty with funding to support research that examines the educational impact of international education abroad learning environments on student outcomes. This grant is suited for faculty interested in pursuing a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) project conducting research on the influence of these education abroad international learning environments using SoTL methods.

To be considered for this grant, proposed projects must be aligned with the principles of a SoTL project as well as explore or evaluate the impact of study abroad experience on student learning outcomes. This grant is intended to encourage projects that assess how participation in education abroad programs influences global awareness, adaptability, intercultural communication, and civic responsibility—particularly among Missouri State students—through the use of SoTL-based inquiries. For more information on what a SoTL project should include, visit the Teaching and Learning Grants Homepage

Applications for this grant will undergo a peer review process conducted by the FCTL Faculty Advisory Council and the Education Abroad Advisory Committee, which include representation from all MSU colleges. A scoring rubric will be utilized to evaluate all grant applications by the FCTL Faculty Advisory Council and Education Abroad Advisory, who will make the decision regarding funded projects.

Faculty may request up to $3,000, and budget detail and justification of funds is a required component of the proposal. Faculty may apply for either or both grants offered by the FCTL in the same semester. Awards will be based on funding available. Recipients of this grant are expected to share the outcomes of their project at FCTL's Showcase on Teaching and Learning or Scholarship Summit and are encouraged to present at other relevant on- and off-campus conferences.
