What We Do
The Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning (FCTL) supports the academic community at MSU through faculty partnerships and programs that inspire teaching excellence, advance academic initiatives, and celebrate scholarly teaching and professional development.
The FCTL continually strives to achieve this mission by:
- Building communities of practice that support faculty growth.
- Providing expertise in instructional design and quality course development for all teaching modalities.
- Delivering programming and services that contribute to high-impact practices, student-centered learning experiences, and academic success.
- Guiding faculty in the effective use of current and emerging technologies, including the university’s LMS and the use of AI in teaching.
- Bringing nationally recognized teaching models and certifications such as ACUE and Quality Matters to MSU.
- Providing Teaching Grants and Awards that recognize faculty in teaching excellence and the advancement of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
- Building relationships and empowering faculty through mentoring, consultations, and other one-on-one support.
- Providing opportunities for peer-to-peer support that include the peer observation of teaching and advancing the role of faculty at the university.
- Meeting the unique needs of the six academic colleges, schools, and academic departments through customized professional development and support for quality online course development.
- Collaborating with academic leadership and valuing the contributions of all university partners.
