Alumni Advisor Meeting

Alumni advisor meetings are mandatory for alumni advisors and occur once a semester. 

The Fall Advisor Meeting is currently scheduled for September 17^th from 7PM to 8:30 PM. If you have any questions regarding this meeting please contact Jimmie Sims.

Faculty/Staff Advisor Myth Busting

❌ Myth #1: "I'll spend every evening at student events."

✅ Reality:
You decide your level of involvement. Advisors are encouraged to attend meetings or events when they can, but students lead the organization.

❌ Myth #2: "I'm responsible for running the organization."

✅ Reality:
Students run the organization—you provide guidance. Think coach, mentor, and campus resource, not event planner.

❌ Myth #3: "It's just like being an alumni advisor."

✅ Reality:
Faculty advisors play a different role. You're an active campus resource who helps students navigate university processes, connect with resources, and develop leadership skills. Alumni advisors often provide networking and industry perspectives, while faculty advisors help students succeed within the university.

❌ Myth #4: "I'll have to approve every decision."

✅ Reality:
Student organizations make their own decisions. Advisors offer advice, help manage risk, and ensure university policies are followed.

❌ Myth #5: "I have to know all the university policies."

✅ Reality:
You don't have to memorize everything. The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is your partner and is here to help answer questions and provide guidance.

❌ Myth #6: "It's a lot of extra work."

✅ Reality:
Most advisors spend just a few hours each month meeting with student leaders, answering occasional questions, and attending events that fit their schedule. The impact on students is often much greater than the time invested.
