Biography

Dr. Matthew Boswell has served as the Associate Director of Bands at Missouri State University since 2022 where he conducts the Wind Symphony, organizes the Bearmania athletic bands, and teaches courses in Music Education. Dr. Boswell came to Missouri from the Sunshine State of Florida where earned both the PhD in Music Education with emphasis in Instrumental Conducting and the Master of Music Education degrees from the Florida State University in Tallahassee. His primary conducting teachers were Richard Clary and Patrick Dunnigan. He studied saxophone with Patrick Meighan.

In between his university study, Dr. Boswell taught comprehensive high school bands in both Fort Pierce and DeLand, Florida. Bands under his direction consistently received superior ratings at district and state competition and were recognized for their musicality. He holds professional memberships in the College Band Directors National Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Missouri Music Educators Association, and honorary membership in Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, Phi Mu Alpha, and Kappa Kappa Psi.
