Congratulations, you've registered to attend SOAR! Complete the following important steps to prepare for your session.
Prepare for SOAR
-
Apply for housing (or obtain an exception to live off-campus)
All single students under 21 years of age who have completed fewer than 27 hours of transferable credit after high school graduation are required to complete a housing contract before registering for classes.
Applications are complete when:
- You have submitted the online housing application
- Your $100 housing deposit has been paid
- Your meningitis vaccination records are on file at Magers Health and Wellness Center
- You have a parent signature on file (if needed)
Complete a housing contract online: My Missouri State ► Campus Life tab ► Housing channel ► Complete Your Application link
Exceptions to the housing policy must be approved by Residence Life, Housing and Dining Services BEFORE attending SOAR. See Residence Life, Housing and Dining Services' exception page for details.
Request final high school and college transcripts
Request that your high school and previous colleges send official final transcripts directly to Missouri State's Office of Admissions at least two weeks before your SOAR session date.
You can bring unofficial copies of your transcripts to show your academic advisor if you believe your transcripts will not arrive prior to your SOAR session.
Complete MSU 101
This online pre-orientation program is designed to prepare you for your SOAR session and transition successfully to college life. Complete MSU 101 at least two days before attending your SOAR session.

Placement exams determine your level of skill in an area of study and your potential to succeed in a specific course. Your performance in a placement exam determines what courses you are eligible to enroll in.
The placement exams below are offered online and should be completed prior to your SOAR session.
Math Placement
Your ACT/SAT scores or previous college credits determine your placement in mathematics courses. To gain entry into a higher-level than your scores or credit allow, take our math placement exam.
Visit the link above for more details.
Foreign language placement
We highly recommend taking the foreign language placement exam if you are planning to enroll in Spanish, French, or German language courses.
Visit the link above for more details.
