Camp FAQs

What are the benefits of summer camp?

Summer band camps provide instruction, rehearsal and performance experiences that will enhance student growth as a musician, leader and role model in their own school program. Additionally, campers will enjoy making friends from other schools, as well as have the opportunity to work with music education experts from across the country, as well as MSU Band faculty and staff.

What age level are the camps designed for?

Winds Institute - grades 9-12

Leadership Institute - grades 9-12

Color Guard Institute - grades 9-12

Junior High Concert Band Camp - grades 6-8

Junior High Color Guard Camp - grades 6-8

Where do campers stay?

All resident campers are housed in University Residence Halls. Front desks are staffed 24 hours daily, and camp counselors are on duty at all times.

Where do campers eat?

All meals are served in one of the University's Dining Halls.  Campers with special dietary needs should contact the band office in advance of camp, and we will connect you with Dining Hall staff who will work with you in advance on what items are available.

Who teaches at the camp?

Camp staff is comprised of MSU Band faculty and staff, leaders from the Pride Band program, marching techs with extensive drum corps experience, and highly respected music educators from throughout the country.

What is the difference between a Resident Camper and a Commuter Camper?

If you are a Resident Camper, you will stay in one of the campus residence halls.  If you are a Commuter Camper, you will be dropped off and picked up by your parent/guardian each day.  Lunch and dinner meals are included in the commuter camper cost, as camp rehearsals, sessions and activities will be scheduled all day and early evening.
