How to Join an IFC Fraternity

At the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters, the Interfraternity Council holds its Formal Recruitment process. IFC Recruitment gives potential members the opportunity to meet members of each fraternity. The IFC Recruitment process is one of mutual selection: the fraternities decide which recruits they wish to invite into membership, and the recruits choose which fraternity they wish to join. Each organization will host individual recruitment events in various locations on campus and throughout the metropolitan area. The formal process lasts one week and allows students the opportunity to explore Fraternity & Sorority Life without joining any particular fraternity. At the conclusion of recruitment, each fraternity extends “bids,” or offers of membership, to men that it wishes to be part of its organization.

Requirements to Join an IFC Fraternity

To join an IFC fraternity and participate in formal recruitment, potential new members must complete the recruitment interest form:

Each organization has its own requirements set by their (inter)national organization and Missouri State chapter. Please contact the individual chapter that you are interested in learning more information about regarding specific requirements and or guidelines.

Letter from the Interfraternity Council Vice President of Recruitment

Welcome to Missouri State! Starting this new chapter can feel like a mix of excitement and uncertainty, but it really is such a special time in your life. You’re about to meet new people, try new things, and make your Missouri Statement. I also wanted to reach out because getting involved in Fraternity and Sorority Life has meant a lot to me. When I first got to campus, I wasn’t totally sure what to expect, but going through recruitment ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve made. It helped me find a group of people I genuinely connect with, and it’s given me opportunities to grow in ways I didn’t expect. If you decide to go through recruitment, my biggest advice is to just be yourself and keep an open mind. Every chapter is different, and the process is really about finding where you feel comfortable and supported. It might feel a little overwhelming at times, but that’s completely normal you’ll figure it out as you go. If you ever have questions or just want someone to talk to about the process, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to help however I can. You can email me at IFCRecruitment@missouristate.edu anytime. I hope your first year is an amazing one. Take advantage of everything you can, and enjoy the experience.

Fraternally,

Jarret Sahr, Vice President of Recruitment
