How to apply

The scholarship application consists of four parts:

  1. Address, contact and academic information, as well as a list of organizations and activities participated in and awards and honors received
  2. An essay consisting of a personal profile describing your leadership in multicultural activities in your school and/or community. Outline how these leadership activities will contribute to your academic and professional goals related to being a teacher
  3. Apply for admission and submit your transcript(s) to the Admissions office no later than the scholarship deadline
  4. Submit your MoGEA scores to the address listed below upon completion

We recommend developing a list of the colleges you attended and the hours you earned at each prior to starting the application as the online application must be completed in one sitting.

Diversity in Education Scholarship for Transfer Students

Value

$3,000 per year. Non-Missouri residents will also receive a full waiver of out-of-state tuition for fall and spring semesters (current annual value is approximately $7,050 annually for a student taking 30 credit hours).

Apply for admission and complete the Diversity in Education Scholarship for Transfer Students Application by March 1 for students entering in the summer or fall semesters or by October 1 for students entering in the spring semester.

Selection criteria

Student must transfer from a community college having completed either an Associate of Arts in Teaching degree or all requirements for admission to the Teacher Education Program at MSU.

Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.00 or higher, have demonstrated leadership in multicultural activities through their schools and/or community, and have declared a major that leads to a Bachelor of Science in Education or Bachelor of Music Education degree.

Renewal criteria

Renewable for one year for students who successfully complete 27 MSU credit hours with a cumulative MSU grade point average of 2.75 or higher. Students must remain enrolled in programs that lead to education degrees. 

Additional information

This scholarship can be combined with the Transfer Academic Scholarship or Missouri Community College Scholarship or Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship to a combined maximum value of $4,500. If the combined value exceeds $4,500, then one scholarship will be reduced in value. The value of the out-of-state tuition waiver portion is not applicable to this maximum.

Please list all colleges previously attended with dates of attendance, number of hours and degrees (if any) completed at each institution. Please use a separate line for each entry.

Please provide your essay consisting of a personal profile describing leadership in multicultural activities and how these leadership activities will contribute to academic and professional goals related to being a teacher. Your essay should not exceed two pages.

What is your ethnic heritage (optional)?

Please make sure that the Office of Admissions has received all transcripts by the March 1 for students entering in the summer or fall semesters or by October 1 for students entering in the spring semester.
