Hutchens/SGA Centennial Leaders Scholarship Application

The Hutchens/SGA Centennial Leaders Scholarship is a four-year scholarship program jointly funded by a generous donation from the Hutchens family and a matching contribution by the students at Missouri State.

The program is designed to recognize deserving students who exhibit outstanding leadership potential. The successful applicant will excel in three of the four areas of student involvement:

  • Leadership

  • Volunteerism

  • Performing arts

  • Athletics

Centennial Leaders Program

In addition to receiving scholarship money, Centennial Scholars will participate in the exclusive Missouri State sponsored Centennial Leaders Program and receive a specially commissioned commemorative medallion among other institutional benefits. During their four year commitment to the University, Centennial Scholars will enjoy special status as well as responsibilities.

How to apply

To apply, complete the online application no later than Jan. 30. Your scholarship application and your application for admission to Missouri State must be received by the deadline to be considered.

Based on submitted applications, finalists will be elected to attend interviews at Missouri State campus, with 30 Centennial Scholars chosen from those interviewed.

Hutchens/SGA Centennial Leaders Scholarship

The Hutchens/SGA Centennial Leadership Scholarship is designed to recognize and encourage leadership.  Students chosen for this scholarship will participate in a leadership development program.


$2,500 per year ($1,000 for students who are also receiving either the Provost or Deans Scholarship).

Total potential value over four years: $10,000 ($4,000 for recipients of Provost or Deans).

Selection criteria

To be considered, you must demonstrate that you have excelled in three of the following four areas:  leadership, performing arts, volunteerism, and athletics.  You must also be in the upper half of your class (or have a GPA of 3.00 or higher) after your sixth semester and have an ACT of 20 or higher (or an SAT score of 1030 or higher).  Qualifying scores must be earned on tests taken during or before December of your senior year.

The Hutchens/SGA Centennial Leaders Scholarship Selection Committee will choose candidates from among the qualified applicants who will be invited to an on-campus interview program. Finalists will be selected as a result of the interview process.

Renewal criteria

Complete at least 27 MSU credit hours per year with a cumulative MSU GPA of 2.75 or higher and successfully fulfill the requirements of the leadership development program.

Academic criteria

List your highest test scores and class rank (6th semester).

Please provide either your ACT score (minimum of 20) or your SAT score (minimum of 1030) or both.

(If you are providing your SAT score, only report the sum of your Critical Reading and Math scores. Do not include the value of your Writing score.)

Please provide your class rank and class size. Your class rank must be in the top 50% of your class.

Please make sure that the Office of Admissions has received your sixth semester transcript showing your best class rank and highest ACT or SAT test scores by the January 30 application deadline.
