Part-Time/Evening Program
Part-time/evening program details
The part-time/evening program serves students in southwest Missouri who wish to pursue an engineering degree on a part-time basis by taking classes in the evenings. It is a cooperative effort between Missouri State university and Missouri University of Science and Technology.
Program requirements
The program assumes you will take approximately 6 credit hours per semester. The time it will take to complete the program depends on your educational background.
For students who have calculus credits
If any of the following apply, you may have already met the calculus and science class requirements and may start working on your engineering curriculum right away:
- You have a degree in mathematics, physics or a similar area.
- You have completed the pre-engineering program at Missouri State.
- You have completed the pre-engineering course work at Ozarks Technical Community College.
- You have completed a similar pre-engineering program.
It will take approximately six years of part-time effort in order to complete your engineering degree.
For students who have a BS in an unrelated field
If you have a degree that did not require calculus or calculus-based physics courses, you will likely have completed the 21 credit hours of humanities and social science courses required for the engineering degree and will not need to take these courses again
You’ll need to complete approximately 110 credits of mathematics, science and engineering course work, which will take approximately nine years of part-time effort.
For students without college credit
If you have earned a high school diploma but have not taken college courses, you will complete the full 131 credits for the engineering degree in approximately 11 years, assuming you take 6 credit hours per semester.
If you take summer courses and additional evening courses when possible, you may complete the 21 credit hours of humanities and social sciences more quickly. In this case, it will take approximately nine years of part-time effort to complete the engineering degree.
Timeline
You may start the program at any time. The program offers considerable flexibility, and we’ll work with you to develop a plan that will help you accomplish your goals.
The mathematics courses through Pre-Calculus I are offered in the late afternoon or evening every semester. Calculus I is offered in the evening every fall semester. Calculus II is offered in the evening every spring semester. Many other courses are offered in the evening every other semester. Your advisor will work with you to determine a schedule that meets your needs.
Advising
You will receive personalized advisement from Dr. Douglas R. Carroll, director of the cooperative engineering program.
