Graduate assistantships

A graduate assistantship covers your tuition costs for a master's degree. You'll also receive a stipend for living expenses.

The School of Nursing offers two graduate assistantship positions. Other assistantships are available across campus.

Ammon D. Schaeffer and Mildred Lampe Memorial Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a Nursing major. Juniors or seniors receiving the award must maintain an overall GPA of 2.5 and a GPA in the Nursing School of 3.0. Must be enrolled in 6 hours. Financial need is required.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal.

Columbia Hospital South Auxiliary Nursing Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a student enrolled in at least 6 hours that is majoring in Nursing. Student must have an overall GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal.

Dr. Robert W. and Charlotte K. Bitter Endowed Scholarship Fund (School of Nursing)

Value

Scholarship amount varies depending on the availability of funding, but awards are usually for $1,000 or more.

Application

Complete the MSU Annual Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

Student must be a Nursing Major. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential, and to leadership qualities. When awarded to a student at the sophomore level or higher, the student must have achieved an overall 2.5 GPA

Renewal criteria

This scholarship is renewed automatically. Scholarship is renewed automatically for up to 3 additional years after first award, but the student must maintain satisfactory academic progress, complete 24 credit hours a year, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5.

Drs. Kathryn L. Hope and George J. Heinz III Scholarship for Nursing Excellence

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or greater Nursing major with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and a GPA in Nursing courses of 3.5. Must demonstrate academic and clinical excellence, leadership in the field, and be in good standing in the nursing program. The student must submit the 1-2 page Personal Statement explaining their interest in field and introducing themselves to the selection committee, as well as the Volunteer and Community Service Essay discussing their leadership, and community involvement.

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal.

Gladys C. Harmon Scholarship

Value

Scholarship amount varies depending on the availability of funding, but awards are usually for $1,000 or more.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a junior or greater Nursing Major with an overall GPA of 3.0. Applicants must be enrolled in at least 6 hours.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship is renewed automatically. Scholarship is renewed automatically as long as the student maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and plans to take 6 credit hours per semester.

Judith Enyeart Reynolds Nursing Scholarship

Selection criteria

The Recipients of this scholarship will be full time Missouri State University students demonstrating Satisfactory Academic Progress, seeking a degree in the Nursing Department. Students with Financial Need should be considered first priority in selection.

The scholarship may be renewed, but the students must reapply and be considered with all other applicants. Renewals are based on available future funding.

Kathy Hubbard and Jane Ford Nursing Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a Nursing major or master's.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Metropolitan National Bank Endowed Nursing Scholarship Fund

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or greater majoring in Nursing with a Nursing School and overall GPA of 3.5. Student must have graduated high school from Barton, Dade, Greene, Webster, Christian, Stone or Taney County. Consideration will be given to those with demonstrated academic excellence and leadership. Preference given to financial need.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship is renewed automatically. Student must maintain an overall cumulative and Nursing School GPA of 3.5 in order to renew.

Mildred Durr Wilcox and Roy T. Wilcox Endowed Scholarship Fund

Scholarship amount varies depending on the availability of funding, but awards are usually for $1,000 or more.

Student must be a Nursing Major selected with regards to academic scholarship, leadership, character, and potential for professional advancement.

MSU Nurses Association Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a student enrolled in the BS in Nursing program taking at least 6 hours with an overall GPA of 3.0. Leadership qualities and financial need required. Preference given to students in the Missouri State University Nursing Association.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed.

Nursing Education Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded to a student seeking a BS in Nursing enrolled in at least 6 hours. Consideration for scholarship, leadership, character, and potential for professional advancement. Must maintain a GPA of 3.0.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed.

Raikos Nursing Scholarship

Selection criteria

The recipient shall be an undergraduate enrolled in Nursing at Missouri State University who graduated from a high school located within 120 miles of Springfield, Missouri. Recipients must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA. Serious consideration will be given to all ways in which potential recipients might contribute to a diverse educational environment. 

Springfield Medical Foundation Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a junior or senior in the medical technology or nursing programs. Preference for scholarship and financial need.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed.
