University Exit Exam - All Students Report
All Missouri State University seniors are required to take GEN 499 – University Exit Exam prior to graduation. The assessment tool used for this requirement is the Educational Testing Service, ETS® Proficiency Profile.
For the fiscal years reported below, Missouri State University seniors scored at or above the Master’s (Comprehensive) Colleges and Universities I and II-Senior comparative means for each of the ETS® Proficiency Profile subscales and overall. Although all subscales are scored using the same range of 100 to 130, subscales cannot be compared against one another.
In the table below, the Missouri State University senior scores are reported as weighted means to correct for the number of students taking the exam each semester in a fiscal year. The national comparative means represent the “Distribution of Institutional Mean Subscores” calculated by ETS from all four-year colleges and universities participating in the ETS® Proficiency Profile between July 2008 and June 2013. To see this annually updated comparative report, go to http://www.ets.org/proficiencyprofile/scores/compare_data/, and select the report for four-year institution seniors.
*Subscale means are not available for fiscal year 2005.
** Fiscal year 2014 ends in spring 2014, so only summer 2013 and fall 2013 data are presented here.

Learning Gains
During the fall 2010 and fall 2011 terms, Missouri State University students were
invited to participate in a study of learning gains using the ETS® Proficiency Profile.
A total of 222 freshmen and 822 seniors were included in the study which compared
the students’ actual and expected critical thinking and writing scores. Expected
scores were determined using an algorithm that took into account the students’ performance
on other standardized tests including the SAT and ACT. Students who did not have
standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) or who had an ACT composite score less than
11 were excluded from the analysis.
