Students enrolled in service-learning courses work to address the issues of hoarding and living in squalor in our community. These issues often prevent emergency responders from rescuing people and saving lives

The Safe and Sanitary Homes project in partnership with the City of Springfield where service-learning computer science students, education majors, sociology, psychology and social work students, coupled with construction management and interior design service-learning students work to develop educational materials, provide counseling, and improve safety in homes in the Springfield community to address the issue of hoarding.  Hoarding in homes is an increasing problem in the Springfield area and is preventing first-responders and medical personnel from providing emergency care to individuals.
