Springfield and the Ozarks

Springfield is a thriving community. It’s a growing business center and a town known for college life – but it’s so much more than a college town. It’s an optimistic, developing city where you can expect active networking as you start a career. It’s a place with a fun downtown, a supportive arts scene, great restaurants and farmers markets, professional and college sports teams and recreation opportunities in our gorgeous outdoors.

Springfield is all this and more. What will it become to you?

Among the entertainment perks, Springfield supports a symphony, ballet, art museum, theater and even an opera. The Juanita K. Hammons Hall for Performing Arts brings Broadway plays and internationally known entertainers to campus. JQH Arena is one of the top entertainment venues in the state, as the home of the Missouri State basketball teams also plays host to concerts, performances, speakers and more. Less than a mile from campus, downtown is the scene for live music. On any given weekend, there may be 30 or more bands playing around town.

Many of our students, faculty and staff tell us Springfield has the feel of a big city with the convenience of a small town. You'll find friendly people, an affordable cost of living, and healthcare options that are among the best in the country. Whether you have a large family, live the single life or anything in between, Springfield is a place that you can call home.

Education is a priority in Springfield, and we're proud to be part of a city that has all of its public high schools rated as A+ schools in Missouri. The Springfield metro area is home to 26 K-12 school districts that provide students with experienced and caring teachers and innovative learning methods to ensure all students' needs are met. As the second-largest university in the state, we're thankful for the stellar school system that prepares students to successfully pursue higher education.

If you are a shopping enthusiast, Battlefield Mall is the place for you. It’s one of the largest indoor shopping centers in the state, with more than 190 stores. Around town, there are nearly 1,500 retail outlets to match your shopping interests, including trendy boutiques and art galleries downtown and the environmentally friendly Green Circle Shopping Center. Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World, one of Missouri’s largest tourist attractions, is the place to get your gear for outdoor fun.

Mediacom Ice Park Springfield’s indoor ice-skating rink, has brought a new dimension of indoor entertainment to the area. You can enjoy recreational skating or cheer on the Missouri State Ice Bears, a club team within the American Collegiate Hockey Association. Hammons Field is home to Springfield’s professional baseball team, the Springfield Cardinals, as well as the Missouri State Baseball Bears. The Cardinals team is the St. Louis Cardinals AA affiliate and a member of the Texas League of professional baseball clubs.

Springfield has a ton of parks, each with a different personality. There's a Japanese stroll garden, bike paths, a dog park and more. If you want to hike a trail, try the Springfield Conservation Nature Center or Wilson's Creek National Battlefield. Serious outdoor types can find campgrounds, state parks and a national forest within easy driving distances.
