Are you passionate about film? Showcase your talent as a filmmaker or screenwriter for a chance to earn a scholarship and have your work recognized!
Requirements

Create and showcase

  • Juniors and seniors in high school.
  • One film entry per student.
  • 1-4 minutes in length.
  • Accepting submissions: April 1 through Nov. 30, 2026.

Scholarship awards

Win a scholarship

Awards in each category (fiction and nonfiction) are as follows:
  • First place: $500 scholarship
  • Second place: $300 scholarship
  • Third place: $200 scholarship
Films will be judged by a panel of Missouri State University graduate students in the CMJF program.

Everything else you'll want to know

Reel and Roar is a film festival open to juniors and seniors from any high school.

  • Film can be in any genre.
    • 1-4 minutes in length. One entry per student.
    • G- and PG-rated films only.
    • No sex, nudity or graphic violence permitted.
  • Submissions accepted from April 1 to November 30, 2026. There is no cost to submit.
  • Must be a current junior or senior in high school.
  • Top three winners in each category (fiction and nonfiction) will be offered a scholarship to attend Missouri State University. There is also the possibility to have the top six (total) winning films shown in the Missouri State University Spring Film Showcase the following year.
