Funding for your future

The School of Anesthesia awards scholarships to select students. We do not accept scholarship applications.

You can earn a scholarship from the School of Anesthesia based on your clinical excellence or cohort position.

School of Anesthesia Clinical Scholarship

The School of Anesthesia Clinical Scholarship is awarded to two junior students who have been nominated by their clinical sites, performing as excellent clinical anesthesia students.

Selection criteria

The recipient for this award must be nominated by their respective clinical sites. Nominated students will then have their clinical reports and simulation testing reviewed by Missouri State's School of Anesthesia faculty for final selection.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Dr. Bart Kuhns DNAP Fund

Selection criteria

The recipient of this award shall be: a non-traditional student properly enrolled in Missouri State's School of Anesthesia, Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program, also known as DNAP. A non-traditional student being defined as a working, married, parent or 22+ years of age. Student must provide a one-page essay of how this award will be beneficial during their second semester of this program.

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

The Crabtree Family Nurse Anesthetist Scholarship

Selection criteria

The recipient of this award will be a full-time student properly enrolled at Missouri State in the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program. The recipient must also have an overall GPA of 3.4 or higher.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Silva Scholarship

The Silva Scholarship was established in 2019 by John Silva, an MSU School of Anesthesia alumnus, and is presented annually to a MSU School of Anesthesia student.

Selection criteria

The recipient of this award must be a second year student at Missouri State and show exemplary clinical skills.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Wade Shipman Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Wade Shipman Scholarship fund was established in 2015 and is distributed by a scholarship board/advisory council including the Shipman family, MSU Anesthesia representatives, and Mercy Anesthesia representatives in conjunction with Mercy Foundation.

Complete the MSU Annual Scholarship Application by March 1.

The pledge form for this scholarship can be found online at WadeShipman.com. All donations are 100% tax deductible, and 100% of the contributions go to the fund.

Selection criteria

The recipient of this award must meet these three criteria:

  1. Retaining a good academic status with a GPA of at least 2.00 in Missouri State's School of Anesthesia.
  2. Currently in the 2nd or 3rd year of the clinical phase of the program.
  3. Excellent performance in all clinical aspects of the program, as acknowledged by the program director.

Crabtree Scholarship

This fund was established in 2017 by Chris Anne Crabtree CRNA, an MSU School of Anesthesia alumnus. She established the fund to honor her too-soon-taken husband, Jeremy Crabtree. This annual $1,000 scholarship is presented to one MSU School of Anesthesia second year student.

Kuhns Scholarship

The Kuhns Scholarship was established in 2018 by Bart Kuhns CRNA, DNAP, and a MSU School of Anesthesia alumnus. This annual $1,000 scholarship is presented to one MSU School of Anesthesia student in the second semester of the program.

Silva Scholarship

John Silva graduated from Southwest Missouri School of Nurse Anesthesia at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, in 1972. He spent 20 outstanding and successful years completing over 20 thousand cases in anesthesia. Silva has retired as a CRNA. He currently co-owns and operates a successful Medical Manufacturing and Distribution Business- Alliance Tech Medical, Inc. The company provides products related to Allergy/Asthma, COPD, and Respiratory diseases.

Wade Shipman Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Wade Shipman Scholarship is a tribute to a man taken too soon, who touched many lives, and will never be forgotten. His legacy continues with this scholarship. We honor him by giving deserving anesthesia students a scholarship in his name. Donations are welcome! The pledge form can be found online at WadeShipman.com.
