What is the relationship between Missouri State University, MSU-West Plains, Ozarks
Public Television and KSMU Radio and the Missouri State University Foundation?
Founded in 1981, the Missouri State University Foundation is a separate non-profit, 501(c)(3) corporation that exists for the advancement and support of Missouri State and its students. The Foundation manages, oversees and coordinates all University fundraising activities and is responsible for the management and investment of all charitable contributions that benefit the University. The Foundation is the exclusive channel for all gifts to the University from all private sources including individuals, trusts, estates, corporations, foundations and organizations. Missouri State University-West Plains is part of Missouri State University System, all charitable gifts are accepted through the Missouri State University Foundation. Ozarks Public Television and KSMU Radio Station are licensed to and operated by Missouri State University, all charitable gifts are accepted through the Missouri State University Foundation.
Is my gift tax deductible?
Yes. The Missouri State University Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and most gifts are tax deductible as allowed by law. Donors receive a receipt for tax purposes following their contribution.
Can I direct my gift to a specific area?
Absolutely. Donors may choose to support any specific college, department, scholarship, athletic program, student organization or other university initiative of their choice. If you're not sure where to give, our team can help identify an area that matches your interests and philanthropic goals.
What if I don't see the fund or program I want to support?
Contact our team and we'll help direct your gift to the area you care about most. Many opportunities are available beyond those featured on our website.
How does my gift make an impact?
Private support helps provide scholarships, enhance academic programs, support faculty, improve facilities, strengthen athletics and create transformative opportunities for students. Gifts of every size contribute to the success of Missouri State and its students.
Can I establish a scholarship?
Yes. Donors may establish scholarship funds that help students achieve their educational goals. Foundation staff can work with you to create a scholarship that reflects your interests and desired impact.
What is an endowment?
An endowment is a permanent fund that provides ongoing support for a scholarship, program or university priority. The principal is invested, and a majority of the earnings is distributed annually to support the purpose designated by the donor.
What is the difference between an endowed fund and an expendable fund?
Expendable funds are available for immediate use, allowing programs to address current needs. Endowed funds provide long-term support by generating funding year after year.

How can I include Missouri State in my estate plans?
Through planned giving, you can support Missouri State through a bequest, trust, beneficiary designation or other deferred gift arrangement. Donors who make planned gifts may be eligible for membership in the 1905 Society.
What is The Founders Club?
The Founders Club is Missouri State University's premier lifetime donor recognition society. Membership recognizes individuals, businesses and organizations whose philanthropy provides significant support for the university and its students.
How can I support Missouri State Athletics?
Athletics supporters can contribute through The Bears Fund, Competitive Excellence Funds, Alston Education Funds and other giving opportunities that benefit Missouri State student-athletes and athletic programs.
What are Competitive Excellence Funds?
Competitive Excellence Funds provide sport-specific support that helps Missouri State teams remain competitive through recruiting, talent retention and other strategic priorities in today's evolving collegiate athletics landscape.
What are Alston Education Funds?
Alston Education Funds support educational awards for student-athletes who excel academically. Gifts help recognize academic achievement and assist with recruiting and retaining high-performing students.
Can I support student-athletes through NIL opportunities?
Yes. Businesses and individuals can engage in approved Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) opportunities with Missouri State student-athletes. Unlike charitable gifts, NIL payments are not tax deductible.
What is Giving Day?
Celebrate Mo State Giving Day is Missouri State's annual spring day of giving. Alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents and friends come together to support the programs and causes they care about most.
How can I get involved with Giving Day?
You can become a Giving Day Ambassador, sponsor a match or challenge, or make a gift to support an area of campus that is meaningful to you.
What is crowdfunding?
Crowdfunding allows students, faculty and staff to raise support for specific projects, programs and initiatives through online campaigns that engage alumni, donors and friends.
How can I apply to launch a crowdfunding project?
Current Missouri State students, faculty and staff may submit a project application for review. Selected projects receive guidance and support to help build a successful campaign.
How can I get involved?
Alumni and friends can support Missouri State by serving on boards and committees, mentoring students, helping with events, participating in alumni chapters and groups, or engaging in other volunteer opportunities across the university. Interested volunteers may email Foundation@MissouriState.edu .
