Applying for a scholarship
Complete the MSU Annual Scholarship Application.
Your financial need often determines if you'll receive a scholarship. This is determined through your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

You may also qualify for more university-wide scholarships and financial aid. For more information, refer to the office of student financial aid.
Graduate resources
A limited number of graduate assistantships are available through the department. These pay a stipend and offer tuition fee waivers.
There are other assistantships and scholarships available on campus.
The Wesley Bair Scholarship in Recreation
Value
A single scholarship will be awarded, but value will be dependent on the availability of funding.
Application
Complete the MSU Annual Scholarship Application by March 1.
Selection criteria
The recipient of this award will be a junior or senior student properly enrolled at Missouri State University and majoring in Recreation, Sport, and Park Administration.
Renewal criteria
This scholarship is renewed automatically. The student will hold the scholarship for one academic year if a senior or two academic years if a junior.
The Wesley Bair Scholarship in Physical Education
Value
A single scholarship will be awarded, but value will be dependent on the availability of funding.
Application
Complete the MSU Annual Scholarship Application by March 1.
Selection criteria
The recipient of this award will be a junior or senior properly enrolled at Missouri State University, majoring in Physical Education and pursing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education (B.S. Ed.).
Renewal criteria
This scholarship is renewed automatically. The student will hold the scholarship for one academic year if a senior or two academic years if a junior.
Florence Baker Bugg Scholarship
Value
Number of awards and values dependent on the availability of funding, but awards are generally $1,000.
Application
Complete the MSU Annual Scholarship Application by March 1.
Selection criteria
Awarded to a prospective or current outstanding Physical Education major or a related field Incoming freshman may be considered. Must be full-time student.
Renewal criteria
This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal.
Reba S. Sims Physical Education Scholarship
Value
Number of awards and value dependent on the availability of funding, but awards are generally $250 - $500.
Application
Complete the MSU Annual Scholarship Application by March 1.
This scholarship considers financial need. Please submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) preferably by Feb. 1.
Selection criteria
Awarded annually to a full-time junior or greater majoring in Physical Education with an overall GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to those students that have been involved in MSU or area athletic programs as an assistant coach, student manager, or officiater. Awards will be made with regard to financial need.
Renewal criteria
This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal.
Kinesiology Department Scholarship Fund

Selection criteria
Awarded annually to a full-time sophomore or greater seeking a degree in the Kinesiology Department with a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Larry and Marilyn Pemberton Endowed Fund
Value
A single scholarship will be awarded, but value will be dependent on the availability of funding.

Complete the MSU Annual Scholarship Application by March 1.
Selection criteria
Student must be a graduate student seeking a degree in the Kinesiology Department (Health Promotion, Secondary Education - Physical Education, and Sports Management) with a cumulative GPA of 3.8. Final decision should be based on faculty members on the selection committee that have reviewed research efforts by the student and determined them to be above average.
Renewal criteria
This scholarship cannot be renewed.
Coach and Mrs. Andy J. McDonald Memorial Scholarship

Number of awards and value dependent on the availability of funding, but awards are generally for $300 - $600.
Application
Complete the MSU Annual Scholarship Application by March 1.
Selection criteria
Awarded to a full-time student that is a Physical Education major. For incoming freshmen consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential, and leadership. When awarded to a sophomore or higher, the student must have maintained an overall GPA of 3.25 and a GPA of 3.25 in physical education.
Renewal criteria
This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal.
Recreation, Sport, and Park Administration Scholarship Fund

Awarded annually to a full-time sophomore or greater seeking a degree in the Recreation, Sport and Park Administration program with a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Mildred Bailey Evans Memorial Scholarship

A single scholarship will be awarded, but value dependent on the availability of funding.

Awarded to students enrolled as Physical Education majors with an interest in Elementary Education.

This scholarship cannot be renewed.
Shirley J. Frye Cummins Memorial Scholarship
Value
One to two scholarships will be awarded with a value of $500.

This scholarship considers financial need. Please submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) preferably by Feb. 1.
Selection criteria
Awarded annually to a graduating Physical Education major for post-graduate study in Physical Education or a similar field at any institution. Must have an overall GPA of 2.75 and a GPA of 2.90 in Physical Education. Involvement in campus and community activities required. Must demonstrate financial need.
Renewal criteria
This scholarship cannot be renewed.
Dr. Nancy L. Curry Endowed Scholarship
Value
Number of awards and value dependent on the availability of funding, but awards will always be at least $400.
Application
Complete the MSU Annual Scholarship Application by March 1.
Selection criteria
Awarded annually to a full-time junior or senior Physical Education major or Coaching minor. Student must have an overall GPA of 3.0 and preference should go to those demonstrating financial need.
