1.    Roll Call – Ms. Beverly Miller, Committee Chair, called the Programs and Planning Committee meeting to order at 9:08 a.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2018, on the Missouri State University campus.    

2.    Approval of Minutes – Ms. Miller mentioned that the first item of business was the approval of the minutes from the October 19, 2018, meeting.  Mr. Kendall Seal so moved, receiving a second from Mr. Craig Frazier.  

Motion passed unanimously.
3.    Retention Data and Initiatives – President Clif Smart briefly discussed graduation rates noting that the first step to increasing graduation rates is student retention.  Dr. Kelly Wood, Director of the Center for Academic Success and Transition, gave a presentation on retention data and initiatives.  She discussed factors that forecast first to second year retention and reviewed the actions and programs that are being used to connect the students and increase retention rates.    

Dr. Shirley Lawler, Chancellor of the West Plains campus, then presented on retention data and initiatives on the West Plains campus.  She talked about retention and the challenges for an open admission campus.  Dr. Angela Totty, Dean of Student Services, and Dr. Dennis Lancaster, Dean of Academic Affairs, reviewed retention data.  Dr. Lancaster then discussed the programs that are in place and being created with a goal of increasing student retention rates. 

4.    Adjournment – Ms. Miller adjourned the Programs and Planning Committee meeting at 10:27 a.m. on the motion of Mr. Seal, the second of Ms. Carol Silvey, and the unanimous approval of the committee.
