What does it mean when you say register for Family Weekend? There are events that have a fee associated with them. When you register for Family Weekend, you are ordering tickets for an event that does include food or has a fee associated with the event, such as the Bear Family Tailgate. If you aren't ordering tickets for the Golf Scramble, the Bear Family Tailgate, the Student Showcase & Dinner, the Welcome Breakfast, Splash & S'mores, the University Safety Expo or the Mentalist Show, you don't have to register. There are free events going on throughout the weekend that do not require tickets.
What should I know about ordering tickets for Family Weekend? First of all, remember your student doesn’t pay for football tickets or the tailgate ticket but you do need to include your student in the number of tickets you are ordering for each event. Make sure to have your student’s BearPass Number when you order tickets. You will need it to complete your transaction.
When does Family Weekend Registration end? We will stop selling football tickets on September 14th. Registration for other parts of family weekend such as the Student Showcase and Dinner, the Welcome Breakfast and the Bear Family Tailgate, will end on September 7th. Some events are limited in space and will close when the maximum number of tickets available for sale is reached.
What is the Bear Family Tailgate in BearFest Village? First, let me tell you about BearFest Village. BearFest Village is an area between Carrington Hall and Glass Hall that is set each home football game with tents and tables for organizations, departments, companies and individuals to tailgate before the game starts. For the Bear Family Tailgate, Parent & Family Programs, the Missouri State Alumni Association and the Traditions Council partner together to have an ex-large tent where we serve tailgate food such as hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, desserts, etc. There are a limited number of tables and chairs but we encourage you bring your chairs and coolers. There are also other food vendors that sell food at BearFest Village. There is a charge for the Bear Family Tailgate. Students are free.
Do I need to buy my MSU student tickets to Family Weekend events? Some events do require a ticket for the MSU student. Your MSU student doesn’t pay for a football ticket or the tailgate ticket but you do need to include your student in the number of tickets you are ordering for each event. MSU students also need a ticket for the Student Showcase (small charge for MSU students) and Welcome Breakfast (small charge for MSU students).
What do I need to do if I want to order more than 6 tickets at a time but the system only lets you order in quantities of 6? To order more than 6 tickets at a time, choose the package you want, then select the number of tickets (for example, 6 adults, 2 MSU students, 1 child), add to your basket, then click Continue Shopping and follow the same process (for example 1 adult). Once you have added all the tickets you need to your basket, click check-out and continue the payment process. You only pay once. Your football tickets will all be together.
Do family members have to pay to attend family events? Family Weekend is a self-supporting event. The ticket price covers events that serve food, supplies, printed materials, and administrative costs. We try to keep the out-of-pocket costs as low as possible for the families. There are many events that offer free admission.
Are Family Weekend tickets refundable? No, family weekend tickets are NOT refundable.
Can my student pick up our Family Weekend tickets? Yes, your student can pick up your Family Weekend tickets during the scheduled pick-up times. The first 250 family's to pick up tickets will receive a goodie bag.
When we pick our tickets up for Family Weekend, whose name are the tickets listed under? The tickets are listed under your student's name. The first 250 family's to pick up tickets will receive a goodie bag.
What is the age range for a person to be considered a child? A child is considered to be between the ages of 3 -12 years old.
Can families stay in on-campus housing when they come for Family Weekend? Families cannot stay in on-campus housing when attending Family Weekend. Review a listing of local accommodations.
Who can come to Family Weekend? Parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents, friends...everyone is welcome.
My family and I want to attend the Family Weekend football game. Can our student sit with us? Your student can sit with you and his ticket is free. When you place your order, make sure to include your student in the number of tickets you need. Again, the student's ticket is free.
Are the football tickets general admission? No, the football tickets are NOT general admission. You will have specific seats. If you are wanting to sit with friends or other families, we encourage you to purchase the tickets all at once or have each family order at the same time. If you want to sit with another family/friend, and you don’t all order at once, please contact Priscilla Childress at firstname.lastname@example.org or at (417) 836-3060 about sitting together with other people. We will do our best to accommodate you but there is no guarantee.
Will all the Family Weekend tickets be mailed? The football tickets will be mailed to you but you will need to check-in for Family Weekend on September 20th or the morning of September 21st to pick-up the tickets for the Bear Family Tailgate, Welcome Breakfast and other events, the schedule of events and your Family Weekend give-away. Football tickets will not be mailed after September 14th. Any tickets purchased after September 14th, will be available for pick-up at Will Call at Plaster Stadium on Saturday, September 21st, if you only purchase football tickets. If you purchased tickets for other events, you will pick them up at one of the ticket pick-up times listed here and on the Family Weekend Schedule of Events.
Do only the families of first-year students attend Family Weekend? While a large number of attendees at Family Weekend are the families of first-year students, we find that our families come back to Family Weekend year after year. All students are encouraged to invite their families and friends.
What kinds of activities do you offer at Family Weekend? Come prepared to have Fun! Activities include a Student Showcase and Dinner; Welcome Breakfast; Bear Family Tailgate; a Golf Scramble; Taste of the PSU; a football game; a fun-filled event at the Meyer Library plus much, much more. I want to attend some events but can't attend them all. What do I do? We understand that everyone can't be at every event. Some events do require tickets and have to be ordered in advance. There are many different activities at various times throughout the weekend. Many events don't require tickets so you can decide at the last minute, if you can attend.
Where do I park when I am on campus for Family Weekend? Families may park in Bear Park North or Bear Park South. We encourage visitors to take note of signs posted near lot entrances for possible exceptions. Learn more about visitor and meter parking.
