Technical Tips

Tip #1: Avoid using the browser Edge

Edge is often prone to authentication errors for MSU custom webpages, because it is integrated with other Microsoft services.

Instead, use ATLAS with Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Brave and Opera.

Tip #2: Save frequently used links

Use the ⭐ icon to prioritize frequently used links. Starred links appear at the top of the list.

Feature #1: Display mode toggle

Click the display icon to switch between light mode and dark mode.

  • Dark mode offers a more relaxed visual experience, ideal for low-light environments. It may also help reduce eye strain and conserve battery life on certain devices.
  • Light mode provides a bright, vibrant interface that enhances visibility in well-lit settings.

Feature #2: Student search options

Located at the top of the page, two search tools allow you to locate student records efficiently:

  • Student Lists: Access your assigned student list by clicking Student Lists. Your list will open in the current window.
  • Student Details: Use the dynamic search bar to find a specific student by M#, name (first/last or last/first) or email. As you type, results will auto-populate. If you type in only the last name, include a comma. Search by any email or chosen name, and no term is required.

Feature #3: Student summary

This section provides general student information, declared academic programs and registration details, inculding the student’s last term attended.

  • Registration information: Find information about registration eligibility.
    • Registration sequence date,
    • Advisor release date, and
    • Whether advisor release is required for registration.
  • Actions: Take action on a student's record.
    • Release the student to register.
    • Add a student note.
      • Notes can be typed directly or pasted from another document.
      • You can also attach relevant files such as student plans. Select the attachment type to categorize the content.
      • Save the note and select any additional recipience (e.g., student or advisor). Saved notes will appear in the Notes tab.
  • Academic changes: You can access the full history of academic changes since the student record began.
    • Major, minor or certificate changes;
    • Graduation status; and
    • Advisor or support team changes.
  • Academic indicators: Find student scores and grade point averages.
    • Undergraduate and graduate GPA.
    • Earned hours and quality points.
    • MSU GPA, transfer GPA and overall GPA.
    • Major-specific GPA.
    • Academic standing.
    • Math and English placement scores.
  • Insights: This is for employee use only.
  • Notes: Review posted notes by role (listed below). You can click a role to filter notes, and sort notes by newest or oldest using the toggle button.
    • Advisor
    • Success coach
    • International Services
    • Career resources specialist
    • Dean
  • Support team: View staff members assigned to the student, as listed in Banner advising tables.
    • If a calendar link is available, students can schedule appointments. Otherwise, links will direct to email.
    • The last note date appears in the final column.

  • Click a link to navigate directly to it.

Applications are organized in two columns by topic.

  • Campus toggle: Use this to switch between Springfield and West Plains data.
  • Term display: Select a term to display student information — typically the current term is best. Use the drop-down menu to change terms.
