Consultations
The FCTL provides faculty with personalized support for course design, effective teaching strategies, and other scholarly work through confidential individual or small group meetings. FCTL staff are available to discuss a variety of topics including:
- Brightspace: We can help you with using Brightspace to simplify the management of your course and more effectively engage students.
- Course design/redesign: We can work with you at any stage of the course design or redesign process to assist you in the alignment of student learning objectives, assignments, course content, and learning activities.
- Digital media and technology tools: We can help identify strategies and tools for incorporating digital media into your course and technologies that assist student learning. We are not experts in all tools, but can guide you on using tools that will help your students achieve their learning goals.
- Course accessibility: We can guide you in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and the development of accessible course materials and activities.
- Experiential and active learning: As students learn through real-world applications such as internships and community work, we can help you with curriculum support and structured reflection to help students succeed through these experiences. We can also guide you through active learning strategies that will engage students in the classroom and support deeper learning.
- Effective teaching strategies: We can work with you on developing or advancing core teaching practices that will help your students succeed. These include practices from ACUE’s Effective Teaching Framework and other research-based instructional and assessment strategies.
- Quality Matter Course Reviews: We can assist you with designing your online course and guide you through the Quality Matters review process. Quality Matters is a comprehensive framework that supports course alignment, engagement, and learner support that helps students achieve success and meaningful learning in online education.
