Excellence in Faculty-to-Faculty Mentoring Award
What is Excellence in Faculty-to-Faculty Mentoring?
The Excellence in Faculty-to-Faculty Mentoring Award recognizes faculty mentors who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to supporting early career faculty at Mo State. Exceptional mentoring includes relationship-building, providing guidance by sharing institutional knowledge, supporting mentee's goals and professional growth, and helping mentees connect with the people, resources, and opportunities that can support their success.
About the Award
The goal of the FCTL Excellence in the Faculty-to-Faculty Mentoring Award program is to signal the University's commitment to excellence in faculty-to-faculty mentoring. The award is one facet of designing a culture of connection, recognition, and purpose for faculty at Mo State. Mentoring is key to creating a culture of connection, while awarding excellence in mentoring provides recognition for those who go above and beyond to support the success of their peers, encouraging a culture of excellence in mentoring.
The FCTL will grant up to six Excellence in Faculty-to-Faculty Mentoring Awards, and each award carries a $1,000 stipend. Award recipients will also be honored with a plaque at the All-Faculty Recognition Reception. When appropriate, one Distinguished Faculty-to-Faculty Mentoring Award will be awarded annually for those demonstrating an exceptional commitment to mentoring, either by providing 10 or more years of peer-mentoring at Mo State or by having provided high-quality mentoring to 10 or more peers during a shorter time period. The Distinguished Faculty-to-Faculty mentoring award carries a $2,000 stipend, and the recipient will be honored with a plaque at the All-Faculty Recognition Reception.
All applications for this award are peer-reviewed by the FCTL Faculty Advisory Council, which is made up of faculty representatives from all MSU colleges. The FCTL Faculty Advisory Council also selects and awards winners at the end of the review process. Nominations will be reviewed based on two criteria:
- Evidence of the mentor's role in helping to create connections and supporting the professional, teaching, and/or scholarly development, of their peers.
- Evidence of sustained mentoring across multiple faculty members across multiple years.
