Majors, Minors, Degrees What’s What?
-
This is your main area of study in college. It should relate to your chosen career
field. You will earn a bachelor’s degree in your major.
-
This is a secondary area of study. Some majors, but not all, require a minor. You
can explore an area of professional or personal interest, such as art, biology or
history.
-
Certificates are focused programs that build specialized skills and boost your résumé.
They take less time than a major or minor, can be earned alone or with your degree,
and are stackable—so you can earn more than one.
-
A degree is what you earn after completing your major courses. The four main types
are associate, bachelors, master's and doctoral or professional degrees.
-
A graduate degree is an advanced degree. Earn a master's, specialist or doctoral degree
to become a recognized expert at the top of your field.
