About Ira

I joined the MSU admissions team in 2022 as an Assistant Director for Diversity Outreach & Recruitment. I hold a B.S. in Psychology from the College of the Ozarks and an M.S. in Counseling from Missouri State University. I am originally from Brazil; however, the US has been my home for over 20 years. My role is to make you feel welcome and guide you through this very important step in your life.

Favorite quote

“No matter who you are, no matter what you did, no matter where you’ve come from, you can always improve, become a better version of yourself.” –Madonna

Favorite book

The Energy Bus by Jon Gordon. This book is a must read. It will give you important reminders of the life you choose to live and how your perception determines your outcome. Such a good book.

Favorite thing to do in Springfield

I love the beauty of the Ozarks with so many scenic places, lakes, rivers and trails. Needless to say, I enjoy the outdoors, as kayaking in one of my favorite things to do — you can almost do it year-round in the Springfield area. Springfield also offers a variety of authentic cuisine: Italian, Peruvian, Brazilian, Korean, Indian, Mexican and more. Mix all that with very friendly people and a decent cost of living, and Springfield is the place to be!

Why Missouri State?

MSU offers a very positive and supportive atmosphere with much to do and explore. Students find great structure, exceptional teachers, innovative classes and more. But my favorite thing is the community impact our students bring to the world with our Public Affairs mission: “A noble cause, a call to action.” Students learn how to focus on humanity, practice self-awareness in a multicultural environment, and give back to the community. MSU also has many resources to help students reach their goals with excellence. Lastly, I must list one of my favorite places on campus other than the beautiful landscape; I really enjoy our amazing Foster Recreational Center.

Best advice for future students?

If you find a perfect destination you would like to reach, check who has been there, and ask for directions. Make connections that add value to your life. Engage in clubs, student organization, teams, etc. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Show up no matter what; always show up. Choose wisely and believe you have what it takes.
