Fagerlin-Johnson-Moeglin Field Studies Scholarship
Student must be a declared geography or planning major enrolled to take a field geography course (GRY 470) during the summer semester or a declared geology or earth science education major enrolled to take a field geology course (GLG 412 or 413 or equivalent). Student must have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 and a major GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to applicants who have not received any other scholarship awards from the GGP department over the same period.
Geosciences/Geography Scholarship
Vincent E. Kurtz Scholarship
Student must be a geology major. When awarded to a student enrolled at the sophomore level or higher, the student must have maintained a major GPA of 3.0 and have completed GLG 314 and GLG 332. Preference will be given to those students holding no other scholarship in that academic year.
D. Kent Smith Memorial Scholarship Award
Student must be a junior or senior who has completed 25 hours of geology course work with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Student must have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0. Student must not hold any other scholarship at the time he/she recieves this scholarship.
Kenneth C. Thomson Memorial Scholarship
Student must be a geology major. Selection is based on academic performance in courses required in the geology major (including required courses in chemistry, mathematics, physics, geography and geology) with greater weight given to courses taken during the preceding three semesters. Preference will be given to applicants who have expressed interest in the academic study of caves or karst terrain through successful completion of GLG 350 (Speleology) or successful completion of or concurrent enrollment in a GLG 499 project focusing on a cave or karst-related issue. Preference will be given to applicants who have not received any other scholarship awards from the GGP department over the same period.
