Maintaining your financial aid eligibility
In general, you must reapply for financial aid each year. Each type of financial aid and scholarship my require you to meet established policies to maintain funding. A brief overview of those requirements is listed below.
Federal grants and loans
Federal regulations require Missouri State University to establish a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy to ensure all students receiving financial aid are making reasonable progress towards completing their degree. Students who fail to make progress toward the completion of their education will be suspended from receiving federal grants and loans.
State scholarships and grants
The State of Missouri establishes renewal criteria for their scholarships and grants. For many of the funds, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) policy must be met. Additional renewal criteria can be found on the terms and conditions of your financial aid award letter and on the Missouri Department of Higher Education website.
University and privately funded scholarships
Renewal criteria for scholarships vary depending on the award. Some scholarships are one time awards, while others are automatically renewed each year if you meet renewal criteria.
When you are offered a scholarship read your notification letter carefully to fully understand how to renew the scholarship, if applicable. Visit our Scholarships page for more information about current scholarships or view previous requirements and renewal criteria.
