Operations Management Team

During evening and weekend hours, building managers function as the building supervisor.  A Building Manager must coordinate custodial and set-up functions to best meet the needs of Student Union guests.  Specifically, this position must monitor all activities in the Union and maintain a safe environment by overseeing the facility, enforcing policies, and responding to situations and emergencies.

Area managers serve as people managers over various departments in the PSU, including AV Technology, House Crew, Front Desk, & Level 1 Games Center. These managers oversee their department employees and serve as a facilitator and coordinator to accomplish the team’s work objectives and best meet the needs of Student Union guests and clients.

Missouri State University, Springfield Campus – Plaster Student Union

Positions: Area Managers and Building Managers

Department: Various

Supervision: These positions report to various full-time positions within the Plaster Student Union.

Schedule:

  • Average of 10-20 hours/week.
  • Schedule varies based on events and meetings.

General Tasks & Responsibilities for Building Managers:

  • Enforces University and Union policy.
  • Responsible for responding to emergency situations that may involve fire, police, or paramedics.
  • Provides our guests excellent customer service.
  • Maintains the safety and security of the Student Union and its guests.
  • Coordinates essential Union functions to ensure a smooth operation.

General Tasks & Responsibilities for Area Mangers:

  • Participate in recruitment and selection process for area hires.
  • Train staff in the proper operation of all work tasks to ensure everyone is able to understand and execute in their role.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert over your area.

General Qualifications (Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • The Building and Area Managers are student employees and must meet all University requirements to work on campus.
  • Minimum GPA: 2.5
  • Minimum enrolled credit hours for U.S. & International students.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Openness to working in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.
  • Flexible hours for availability (including evenings & weekends).
  • Ability to work with people from different backgrounds.
  • Work knowledge and skills for certain Area Manager positions.
  • For AV Technology, strong knowledge of sound and projection systems used in the PSU.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience.
