August 1, 2002 Minutes

1. Call to Order - A regular meeting of the Staff Senate of Missouri State University was called to order at Plaster Student Union, Room 313 at 1:30 p.m.

2. Roll Call -

Present - F. Chris Brown, Patrick Byers, Chuck Donald, Kelly Brown, SuzAnn Ferguson, Mary Lynne Golden, Lisa McEowen-LeVangie, Betty Lewis, Ken McCrory, Lisa Reed, Pam Sailors, Edie Sartin, Chris Strodtman, Edie Sartin

Absent - Kelly Brown, Alan Roland, John Avery, Myril Stewart, Belinda Davis, David Liss

Guests - Larry Dudley, Angie Cockrum, Norm Griffith, Ed DeLong

Mary Lynne Golden, Chairperson, presided and Edie Sartin recorded the proceedings of the meeting.

3. New Business -

Lisa McEowen-LeVangie presented the results of the Staff Budget Priorities Survey. With not enough members present for a quorum to vote on approval of the survey results, it was decided to do voting by email. The survey results were later approved by email vote.

After a short discussion about email voting, it was decided to put several issues to an email vote. Staff Senate members voted by email on the minutes from May, June and July--all were approved. A motion to support Lee National Denim Day to be held on October 4, 2002 was approved. And Phil Nichols and Mike Clark were approved as new members.

Patrick Byers, gave a report on the University Centennial Committee and presented the upcoming Centennial theme: "Dare to Excel". The Centennial Committee is asking groups on campus get involved by setting up steering committees for possible projects or activities associated with the Centennial Celebration. The University will hold "Founders Day" during March 2005. Also in the planning is to invite former President Jimmy Carter as the keynote speaker during the Public Affairs Convocation in April 2005. Funding by sales of Centennial items and private donations is currently being discussed.

4. Old Business -

Mary Lynne stated that health insurance bid information will be available on the Human Resources web site or copies are available in Human Resources to review. We will ask Howard Berriman, Human Resources to a future meeting to update Staff Senate on the bid process.

5. Announcements -

The next meeting of the Staff Senate will be held Thursday, September 5, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. in Plaster Student Union, Room 313.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:00.
