Out of Area (Within Missouri)

Placements in Missouri outside the 24 county area are allowed with program approval. Not all programs allow out of area placement and candidates are considered on an individual basis. There is an additional student teaching fee for out of area placements.

The following documents may be required. Email required documents to OOA docs@missouristate.edu) by September 15th (spring student teaching) or March 15th (fall student teaching). Placements will not be requested until all documents are received.

The following school districts require three letters of recommendation, a philosophy of education, and a resume:

  • Fort Zumwalt
  • Lindbergh
  • Parkway
  • Webster Groves

One letter of recomendation, a philosophy of education, and a resume is required by: 

  • Rockwood

A philosphy of education and a resume are required by:

  • Lee's Summit R-VII

Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR) is required by:

  • Fox C-6
  • Fort Zumwalt
  • Rockwood
  • Webster Groves
  • Columbia
  • North Kansas City 74
  • Jefferson City
  • Waynesville R-VI

A background check using the district's code, which will be provided to you if they find a placement, is required by: 

  • Fox C-6
  • Fort Zumwalt
  • Waynesville R-VI

A district application/request form for the position of student teacher is required by: 

Additional documents may be required. A TB test result may be required.

Out of State

This option is primarily for students who have circumstances requiring placement outside of the state of Missouri. Due to limitations, not all states can be approved. Do not make plans to student teach out of state without final approval.

Students must complete the Out of State Student Teaching Request Form at least ONE YEAR PRIOR to the student teaching semester. Additional documents may be required. Students approved for Out of State placement will be charged an additional student teaching fee.

Out of Country

This option is primarily for students who have circumstances requiring placement outside of the United States. Due to limitations, not all requests can be approved. Do not make plans to student teach out of country without final approval.

Students must complete the Out of Country Student Teaching Request Form at least ONE YEAR PRIOR to the student teaching semester. Additional documents may be required. Students approved for out of country placement will be charged an additional student teaching fee. All additional expenses will be the student’s responsibility.
