Checklist

  • Meet with academic advisor to verify that prerequisites have, or will be, met.
  • Complete online student teaching application: August 1st for spring student teachers and February 1st for fall student teachers.
  • If you have further questions after reviewing this information, you may call the Educational Field Experiences Office - 417-836-5253 to schedule an appointment with your placement coordinator to discuss student teaching.
  • If placement location request is out of area, review the Out of Area Information and complete all additional requirements by the appropriate deadline - September 1st for spring student teachers and March 1st for fall student teachers.
  • Schedule and complete the University Exit Exam. Access the schedule of test dates/times. (Please note that this is not a requirement for student teaching but it is required for graduation.)
  • Submit all clearance documents (current negative TB skin test result, current professional liability insurance verification, current FBI fingerprinting background check verification) to the Professional Education Services office.
  • Create a profile on the DESE website. Access profile instructions.
  • When placement is received, contact cooperating teacher(s) to introduce yourself and schedule a time for your first visit.
  • Review the Student Teaching Handbook; this is available for the entire academic year by August 1st on the Educational Field Experiences website. This is your required text for student teaching.
