GENERAL FUNCTION

The Student Wellness Coordinator plays a pivotal role in enhancing student health and well-being within the university. This multifaceted position serves as a catalyst for creating a healthier, more informed, and supportive campus environment by leading educational initiatives, mentoring peer educators, and providing personalized support to students seeking to improve their overall well-being.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in health promotion, health education, public health, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education (health promotion, health education, public health, or a related field) and experience in above related fields is required. A Master’s degree in health promotion, health education, public health, or a related field is preferred.

Experience: Excellent communication and presentation skills are required. Experience with technology including web design and social media is required. Experience designing and implementing best practices prevention strategies is required. Experience working in a college health setting is preferred. Experience with data collection and analysis is preferred. Experience with grant writing and oversight is preferred. Experience developing or an oversight of a Peer Education Program is preferred.

Skills: Effective oral and written communication skills are required. The ability to communicate effectively one-on-one and with both large and small groups is required. Effective organizational skills are required. Proficiency in PowerPoint, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Word and Web Design and Social Media application are required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Certifications: CHES or MCHES certification is preferred.

Other: Evening and weekend work will be required at times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Recruits, trains, retains, and advises well-being peers who provide education on a variety of well-being topics.

2. Develops, grows, and sustains peer health education program.


3. Provides supervision to a student staff for the well-being peers program.

4. Coordinates prevention and outreach events designed to improving student health and well-being.

5. Collaborates with campus stakeholders, influencers, and partners to positively impact the health of campus including.

6. Works with student groups such as Student Government Association, Greek Life Association, Athletics, student leaders and other identified populations.

7. Uses relatable, evidence-based approaches to help students navigate their health behaviors and habits to reduce risk and increase positive health outcomes.

8. Provides training to campus staff, faculty, resident advisors, and other student leaders on health and well-being topics.

9. Organizes national and state level well-being surveys. Communicates and utilizes the data to inform partners and programs.

10. Assists in collaborative development and maintenance of wellness program with employee health partners including Employee Wellness Coordinator.


11. Makes application for grants and maintains oversight of existing grants.

12. Maintains oversight of design and promotion of Magers webpage and social media accounts pertaining to Student Health and Wellness.

13. Works collaboratively with staff of Magers Health and Wellness.

14. Serves on committees and other task forces as assigned.

15. Works within the guidelines and support of AAAHC and CAS accreditations and standards

16. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

17. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Director, Health and Wellness Service.

18. Helps to ensure the overall success of the University’s student health and wellness efforts by performing all other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION

 The Coordinator, Student Wellness is supervised by the Director, Health and Wellness Service and supervises graduate assistants, interns, peers, and student employees.
