GENERAL FUNCTION

The General Manager – Athletics provides operational oversight for the team, supports program development, manages resources, supports student athlete success, provides oversight of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) strategies, and manages the team budget. The General Manager (GM) acts as a "front office" for the head coach by bridging player personnel, building alumni relations, and ensuring compliance.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Sports Management, Business Administration, Athletics Administration, or a related field.  

Experience: At least two years of experience in collegiate athletics. 

Skills: Demonstrated oral and written communications skills and organizational skills are required. Computer literacy, particularly in word processing and using databases, is preferred. Strong knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations especially Division I preferred.

Other: The scope of the job frequently requires travel and evening and/or weekend activities, meetings, events, and seminars.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Strategizes player retention, assists with recruiting, manages the transfer portal, and handles scholarship allocations.

2. Assists with roster management and scholarship allocations. Tracks eligibility and coordinates with the head coach on positional needs.

3. Manages Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) opportunities, revenue sharing strategies, and operates within the program’s budget. Ensures alignment with compliance and helps educate student athletes on NIL opportunities and limitations.

4. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the sport program. This may include assisting with travel logistics, alumni relations, coordinating with staff team needs, etc.

5. Assists the head coach with oversight of the sport budget. This may include budget forecasting, financial planning, resource allocations, and fundraising efforts.

6. Oversees high school and transfer recruiting. Manages the recruiting database and communication with athletics compliance.

7. Ensures compliance with NCAA, University and Conference rules and regulations. Assists with overseeing recruitment and reporting obligations.

8. Promotes academic success, wellness and leadership development of student athletes. Supports programs focused on mental health, career readiness, and life skills.

9. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the head coach.

10. Contributes to the overall success of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SUPERVISION

The General Manager - Athletics is supervised by the Head Coach and supervises graduate assistants and student workers.
