GENERAL FUNCTION

The Equipment and Facilities Support Technician provides comprehensive operational support for the college’s instructional and facility resources. This position is responsible for coordinating the issuance, maintenance, storage, and inventory of equipment and supplies used across academic programs and campus facilities. The Technician ensures that equipment is safe, properly maintained, readily available for authorized use, and documented in accordance with institutional policies. This role also supports facility readiness, safety compliance, and continuous process improvements affecting the college community.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A high school diploma or the equivalent is required.

Experience: At least two years of experience in inventory management, equipment services, facilities support, or a related operational area is required; experience within an academic, instructional or facilities environment is preferred.

Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively serve a growing campus community. Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, exercise independent judgment, and coordinate multiple operational functions. Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform advanced preventive maintenance and minor repairs using hand tools. Ability to maintain records, manage inventory systems, and implement process improvements.

Effort: Must be able to lift and transport equipment, furniture, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks related to equipment setup and facility support


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Serves as the lead Technician for the college’s equipment and facility support services, ensuring the safe issuance, tracking, maintenance, and return of equipment used in instruction, research, recreation, and facility operations.

2. Maintains accurate inventories of all equipment and supplies, manage check-out and check-in procedures, document equipment status, and reconcile discrepancies. Provides reports to the supervisor regarding usage trends, losses, or replacement needs.

3. Performs advanced preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and minor repairs on equipment, coordinates with vendors or service providers for repairs beyond internal capability. Establishes and implements standards for equipment maintenance and serviceability.

4. Supports facility readiness by setting up, arranging, and maintaining equipment and space for academic, recreational, or college-wide events.

5. Monitors facilities for safety and compliance with institutional policies, reporting hazards and taking corrective action as appropriate.

6. Provides high-quality service to students, faculty, staff, and authorized users.

7. Trains individuals on proper use and care of equipment and communicate appropriate policies and procedures for equipment and facility use.

8. Interprets and enforces college and university policies related to equipment use, storage, and facility access as well as recommends, develops, and documents procedural improvements to promote efficiency, accountability, and safety.

9. Assists with planning and coordination for the acquisition and replacement of equipment, including compiling lists of needs, preparing purchase documentation, and liaising with purchasing and budget offices.

10. Prepares periodic reports on equipment inventory, maintenance activities, and service requests as well as communicates updates, issues, and recommendations to the supervisor and collaborates with other departments as needed.

11. Contributes to the overall success of the College by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SUPERVISION

This position may provide functional guidance to student employees or temporary staff assigned to support equipment and facility operations.
