GENERAL FUNCTION
The Director of Equipment Operations - Athletics is responsible for the organization and administration of Equipment Operations for the Athletics Department. This position will oversee the purchasing, distribution, and maintenance of all sports equipment and apparel for athletics ensuring compliance with NCAA Conference and University rules and regulations.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A bachelor’s degree is required.
Experience: At least three years of experience in equipment at the collegiate level
is required.
Skills: Strong organizational and communication skills, knowledge of athletic equipment,
and the ability to manage several tasks to assist and support coaches and student
athletes is required. Ability to supervise and train staff effectively is required.
Knowledge of computer systems (ex Teamworks) is required. Knowledgeable of NCAA, Conference,
and University and/or state rules and regulations which impact all functions and procedures
of this position beyond just the purchase of product and equipment.
Certifications: Athletics Equipment Managers Association certification (AEMA) required.
Effort: Must be able to lift and transport equipment, furniture and other materials.
Other: Must be willing to work long hours, nights and weekends.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Oversees equipment and apparel purchases; inventory and distribution; and storing, maintaining, and disposing of items.2. Manages the inventory software for all goods pertaining to the equipment room.
3. Forecasts costs and implements inventory control measures for the sport programs.
4. Recruits, trains and oversees student workers, graduate assistants with equipment-related duties such as laundry.
5. Ensures that refunds and exchanges are properly handled and accounted for.
6. Manages relationships with equipment and apparel vendors. Coordinates orders and returns.
7. Ensures equipment is properly fitted, in compliance with health and safety guidelines, and safely working.
8. Plans and prepares equipment setup and take down for practices and games.
9. Works directly with head coaches to determine team needs.
10. Coordinates annual product review meetings with vendors and coaches and staff
11. Coordinates with Athletics and University Administration to ensure trademark provisions are adhered to and that all Athletics, Conference, and University school marks are properly deployed.
12. Manages travel strategy as it pertains to loading/unloading equipment truck, packing for student-athletes, coaches, and other staff members.
13. Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION
This position is supervised by the Senior Associate Director of Athletics/Senior Women’s Administrator (SWA). This position may supervise graduate assistants, student workers, and/or interns.
