GENERAL FUNCTION
The Information Technology Support Administrator provides support to the faculty, staff, and students of the College by recommending technology-based solutions that improve ongoing College operations, facilitate completion of projects, and support faculty in teaching and research. The Information Technology Support Administrator, CNAS uses advanced professional and technical expertise to provide leadership and guidance to the College related to technology.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred, or more than 30 hours of courses taken in one or more of the College’s disciplines.
Experience: At least three years of work experience in the related field is preferred, with an emphasis on computer, server, and website support, developing computer applications and providing computer-related training. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered for substitution of experience requirements. Experience working with an academic learning management system is preferred.
Skills: Leadership skills and ability to manage complex software systems are required. Effective verbal and written communication are required. A basic understanding of network topologies, server administration and virtualization, computer-based application software, relational databases and reporting, and technology-related diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques are required. Excellent technical aptitude in Windows/macOS/Linux desktop installation and administration and current enterprise device and software management systems, such as Microsoft Configuration Manager (MCM), Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, Group Policy, JAMF Pro, is required. The ability to automate system administration and configuration tasks using PowerShell is required. Knowledge of Application Packaging Technologies for Windows and macOS is required.
Effort: This position connects cables which may require climbing ladders or working under desks and loads and unloads equipment such as furniture, printers, and computers and supplies such as paper, toner, and cleaning supplies from shelves up to five feet high. This position lifts and transports multiple items weighing less than twenty-five pounds (typically weighing less than ten pounds)
Other: The twenty-four-hour scope of University operations may result in the need to work evenings, nights, and weekends to support implementations or upgrades and to respond to major issues with information technology operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintains and assures accessibility of hardware, software, and technology equipment to ensure uninterrupted business operations for the College.2. Oversees labs, campus printers, remote support, IT service platforms, and BearPrint student printing to maintain continuous service delivery.
3. Supervises staff and coordinate activities, including hiring, training, performance evaluation, and fostering professional conduct and development.
4. Develops and maintain service portfolios, metrics, workflows, and project plans to ensure high-quality support services and successful project execution.
5. Monitors service levels, manage resources, maintain asset inventories, and document configurations to ensure effective daily operations.
6 Builds strong relationships through regular feedback, professional communication, and follow-up to ensure customer satisfaction and service improvement.
7. Provides strategic technology recommendations aligned with the College’s goals, assist departments with hardware/software selection, and support procurement processes.8. Serves as the College's liaison with Computer Services and the University's Information Technology planning efforts by sharing information and coordinating the planning, use, and acquisition of technological resources.
9. Works with the dean and other relevant administrators to identify educational technology needs and establish organizational technology priorities, manages multiple concurrently assigned projects, including management of personnel, technology resources, and assists in strategic planning and evaluation of the College’s performance and progress toward accomplishment of the goals and objectives.
10. Helps to ensure the availability of computer resources by assisting with disaster prevention and recovery efforts.
11. Reviews and evaluates information security compliance issues/concerns within the College ensures that the College is in compliance with the information security rules and regulations of the University, and that College practices meet the standards set by the University for compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
12. Initiates, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with all departments in the College, external academic institutions, vendors, and information technology areas within the University
13. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and obtaining certifications and attending training and/or courses required by the Director of Information Technology and Operations.
14. Provides the highest level of effectiveness and support in computing operations by obtaining and maintaining an in-depth knowledge of computer hardware and software utilized within the University through both vendor-supplied training and individual effort.
15. Contributes to the overall success of the College of Natural and Applied Sciences by performing all other duties as assigned.
16. Manages the licensing and distribution of campus site programs used in the College (ESRI, Mathematica, SPSS, SAS, Foxit, etc.) and department specific applications such as ENVI, MATLAB, and Metashape. Responsibilities include assigning license keys, assisting in the implementation of single sign-on (SSO), maintaining license servers, administering online portals, and verifying application usage isn’t in violation of license terms.
17. Installs, secures, administers, and maintains servers in the College used for classroom instruction and research. Coordinates with Networking and Enterprise Systems to ensure proper configuration. Reviews Server Vulnerability Reports and works with Cybersecurity to remediate any security concerns.
18. Understand the university’s Learning Management System (LMS) system and be able to respond to faculty questions – referring them to FCTL as needed.
SUPERVISION
The Information Technology Support Administrator supervises Distributed User Support Specialists, graduate assistants, and student workers.
