GENERAL FUNCTION

The Endpoint Systems Administrator is responsible for the University’s multi-platform endpoint management systems, including those used for operating system and application packaging and deployment, system configuration and patch management, and management of systems operations and security.  Duties include the day-to-day administration, coordination, and operation of these systems and interfacing with users to determine support needs.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: An Associate’s degree is required, a Bachelors degree preferred. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements. 

Experience: A minimum of one year of experience deploying and managing endpoint systems using a current enterprise device and software management system such as Microsoft Endpoint Manager, is required.  This management should include operating system and application packaging and deployment, system configuration and patch management, and management of systems operations and security. Experience creating, delivering, and maintaining technical documentation is required. Experience working in a higher education environment is preferred.

 Skills: A basic understanding of network topologies, server administration and virtualization, computer-based application software, relational databases and reporting, and technology-related diagnostic and troubleshooting techniques is required. Excellent technical aptitude in Windows 10+ /macOS desktop installation and administration and current enterprise device and software management systems, such as Microsoft Endpoint Manager Configuration Manager (MEMCM), Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, Group Policy, Jamf Pro, is required.  The ability to automate system administration and configuration tasks using PowerShell is required. Knowledge of Application Packaging Technologies for Windows and macOS is required.  The ability to follow technical instructions, both verbal and written, as well as the ability to solve system-related problems by using diagnostic techniques and protocols is required.  Effective verbal and written communication skills are required. Effective interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills are required. The ability to perform in a problem-solving capacity including the evaluation of crisis and emergency situations is required. Demonstrated supervisory ability is required.

The ability to maintain confidentiality regarding information processed, stored, or accessed by the systems is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Effort: Requires working at microcomputer workstations for extended periods of time and requires regular lifting and carrying objects weighing up to twenty-five pounds, and occasionally up to fifty pounds.

 Other: The twenty-four hour scope of the department requires this position to be available evenings, nights, and weekends to respond to calls regarding questions or problems with the University’s computing systems. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Serves as the primary technical lead and provides advanced technical support and administration for the University’s multi-platform endpoint management systems by: developing an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the software and services and how they impact University IT support efforts and initiatives, implementing and configuring the software and systems, documenting and managing security groups, configurations and changes in accordance with university guidelines, and coordinating support efforts with vendors, University IT support staff, and other stakeholders.

2. Effectively manages operation of the University’s multi-platform endpoint management systems. Assists in lifecycle planning and maintains a current inventory of all assets and resources used and required by assigned staff and services, develops and maintains a portfolio of all services provided, establishes appropriate service levels, metrics, best practice checklists, and workflows, and coordinates endpoint management operations with vendors, University IT support staff, and other stakeholders.

3. Develops and maintains good customer relations by regularly meeting with University IT staff and stakeholders to review, assess, and suggest improvements regarding endpoint management services, providing clear, timely, and professional communications with customers and stakeholders. Uses appropriate tools and channels to follow-up on work accomplished by the team to ensure customer satisfaction and acts accordingly on feedback provided, and provides accurate information regarding endpoint management services, resources, and initiatives.

4. Assures effective communication by providing updates about endpoint management activities and concerns to the Assistant Director, Computer Services and providing suggestions for problem resolution.

5. Supports the Assistant Director, Computer Services with special projects by collecting relevant information, conducting appropriate research, writing reports, and providing analysis and evaluation in a variety of areas including personnel staffing and technologies.

6. Assists in the development of implementation strategies for new tools and methodologies. Leads the evaluation and testing of such tools, methodologies, and technologies, and provides the Assistant Director, Computer Services with the results of those evaluations and tests.

7. Contributes to the development of policies and procedures by serving on appropriate committees and supporting the mission of the department and the University.

9. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Assistant Director, Computer Services.

10. Contributes to the overall success of Information Services by performing all other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION

The Endpoint Systems Administrator has the Irregular but occasional responsibility to direct the work of student workers and/or temporary or part-time workers.
