GENERAL FUNCTION
The Media & Technology Specialist, TV & Radio, assists in the design, creation, and maintenance of Ozarks Public Broadcasting (OPB) technical facilities, including broadcast, production, and information technology infrastructure. This position participates in the creation and distribution of multiplatform content by coordinating, filming, and editing visual content, and by designing and executing online distribution plans. The Media & Technology Specialist, TV & Radio works with a variety of stakeholders, including station staff, campus colleagues, vendors, public media colleagues, station audience members, and the general public.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education: An Associate’s degree or equivalent number of college credit hours is required. A Bachelor's degree, with an emphasis in a computer-related field, is preferred. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.
Experience: Two years of experience installing and supporting a wide range of microcomputer hardware, peripherals, and software is required. Experience in web page design and development is preferred. Experience with single- and multi-camera filming and non-linear editing is required. Experience in broadcast operations is preferred.
Skills: Strong technical aptitude in the areas of information technology, broadcast technology, and video and audio hardware and software are required. A basic understanding of network topologies, file server administration, microcomputer-based application software, and computer-related diagnostic techniques is required. Effective verbal and written communication and customer service skills are required. The ability to manage multiple concurrent projects is required.
Other: After-hour ‘on-call’ involvement to respond to failures of mission critical systems in a timely manner is required. Occasional travel for production projects is required. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to fifty pounds is required. Sufficient mobility to connect cables which may require climbing ladders or working under desks is required. Visual acuity sufficient for installation and repairs of microcomputers and peripherals, as well as to inspect physical facility conditions is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assists in planning, executing, and evaluating the day-to-day online and social media elements of multiplatform projects that advance Ozark Public Broadcasting’s short- and long-term strategic goals, and monitors industry trends and online audience behaviors to recommend new strategies for creating and delivering OPB content across online and social media platforms.2. Works collaboratively with OPB staff to develop guidelines, best practices, and recommendations for emerging technologies that support the creation and distribution of online and social media content and provide staff training and individualized coaching on digital tools, strategies, and effective use of these platforms to maximize engagement and reach.
3. Works collaboratively with OPB staff to access audience and performance data, and to develop and maintain data consolidation tools to allow staff to access, analyze, and utilize data for decision-making across the organization.
4. Exercises creative and technical decision-making for single- and multi-camera productions, including planning, resource evaluation, and determining equipment, crew, and location needs, as well as selection and editing of video and audio segments to create polished, effective presentations for multiplatform distribution.
5. Supports media productions by performing video and audio recording, producing, and directing, supervising student crew, guiding on-screen talent, and editing final content as needed, as well as helping build or modify studio sets, selecting and lighting locations, setting up, troubleshooting, and operating media equipment, and assisting with staging and presenting productions on and off campus.
6. Contributes to efficient office operations by maintaining and archiving production files, tracking expenses and supply usage, and preparing required reports on production costs and inventories.
7. Assists with the designing, acquiring, implementing, and evaluating the departmental information management infrastructure, including station servers and the Cisco Network.
8. Assists with maintenance of station hardware and software, including video and audio production equipment and programs.
9. Serves as liaison with university Networking, Information Security, and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure the efficacy and compliance of Ozarks Public Broadcasting’s information technology infrastructure.
10. Ensures that station personnel can perform their duties and effectively operate the various information management assets as required by providing user support, consultation, and training as needed.
11. Maintains the integrity and security of Ozarks Public Broadcasting information systems and infrastructure by developing and implementing appropriate procedures and protocols for responsibly maintaining those systems and infrastructures.
12. Evaluates and facilitates the acquisition of new technology resources by understanding the functions of the stations, analyzing current processes, and advising on appropriate alternatives, with an emphasis on automated solutions, to meet process needs and advising on the purchase and implementation of equipment and systems.
13. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by supervisor(s).
14. Contributes to the overall success of unit by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
SUPERVISION
The Media & Technology Specialist, TV & Radio provides little or no supervisory responsibility for work of others.
