GENERAL FUNCTION
The Graphic Designer - Athletics is responsible for creating high-impact, on-brand visual content that drives fan engagement, revenue generation, and brand growth for Missouri State Athletics across digital, social, and in-venue platforms.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor's degree with a major in Art or a related field is required. A Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in graphic design is preferred.
Experience: At least either one year of work experience in graphic design or a minimum of three semesters experience as a part-time student designer with an Athletic Department or team is required. Experience in using software packages such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is required. Experience in collegiate athletics, professional sports, or a fast-paced content environment is strongly preferred.
Skills: Must demonstrate talent as a designer, including the ability to combine function and visual appearance to achieve successful communication. Experience with After Effects or motion graphics is preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills as well as good organizational and planning skills are required.
Effort: The scope of the position occasionally requires additional hours to meet deadlines. Evening, weekend and holiday work is required. The position requires an extensive amount of time working at a computer workstation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Plans, strategizes and produces effective publications determining visual approaches from original design concepts and to delivery, with a prioritized focus on supporting the creative needs that align with the external unit’s focus on revenue generation and branding. Work involves creative direction and substantial artistic judgment in creating campaign concepts.2. Provides additional unique content creation and ideation management for Missouri State Varsity sport teams.
3. Strategizes and collaborates with other teams such as Marketing, Strategic Communications, Video Productions, and Coaches on design assignments, from initial concept to completion.
4. Manages purchases and other operation expenses within budgets and deadlines established by Supervisor or project lead.
5. Creates unique content and graphics for printed and digital material within University brand standards by utilizing available desktop publishing software and becoming proficient in new software programs and versions.
6. Assists the supervisor or other staff by performing edits for various projects.
7. Assists with game days, photoshoots, and has availability to travel to cover away events as needed.
8. Contributes to increased ticket sales, attendance, and fan engagement through compelling visual campaigns.
9. Contributes to the overall success of the department by performing essential duties and assisting with other responsibilities as assigned by supervision.
SUPERVISION
The Graphic Designer - Athletics is supervised by the Associate Athletics Director for External Relations and may supervise student workers, as directed.
