GENERAL FUNCTION

The Outreach and Marketing Coordinator, International Leadership and Training Center (ILTC) plans, organizes, and implements marketing, communications, and recruitment efforts in Mongolia and other Central Asian countries by studying market conditions to identify learning needs and direct marketing efforts to support the growth of international enrollment. This position establishes effective international relationships by serving as a liaison between MSU and Central Asian universities, high schools, businesses, organizations, and recruiting agents. The Outreach and Marketing Coordinator provides a variety of academic and student support services for the ILTC. This role serves as a liaison between the ILTC and international students by providing language translation, cultural guidance, and logistical support. This position assists in the development of customized training and educational programs, organizes, and presents course content, advises students, and coordinates with academic units to implement ILTC programs.

Continuation of this position is dependent on sufficient revenue being generated by ILTC programs.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A bachelor’s degree in Communication, Marketing, International Affairs, Regional Studies, or related field is required. A master’s degree is preferred. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.

Experience: At least two years of administrative experience in a university setting is required. Experience in international student support and recruitment is required. Experience in education and training program development and operations is required. Experience in translation and interpretation is required. Experience living in the region of Central Asia is preferred.

Skills: Verbal and written fluency in English is required. In addition, verbal and written fluency in a language of the Central Asian region is required. Effective interpersonal skills are required. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required. A working knowledge of both U.S. and Central Asian cultures and customs are required. An understanding of intercultural negotiations, institutional dynamics, and strategic communication skills is required. Strong analytical, communication, and critical-thinking skills are required. Strong understanding of international political systems, global economic trends, and cultural dynamics is preferred. Demonstrated skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications is required.

Other: A valid driver’s license is required. The scope of the position requires the ability to work weekends and flexible hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provides Central Asian language translation of marketing and promotional materials and content for print, website, social media channels, written course content, and interpretation of live presentations by other instructors as needed.

2. Provides expertise in developing culturally appropriate messaging for marketing and promotional materials produced by MSU’s Office of International Programs and collaborates with the communications team to ensure consistent branding and messaging across all marketing channels.

3. Studies the target market conditions by collecting and analyzing data to identify learning needs and direct marketing efforts to support the growth of international enrollment.

4. Leads the development of marketing strategies to identify and network with potential international partners from Central Asia.

5. Measures the effectiveness of marketing strategies of ILTC, reporting findings to management.

6. Measures and assesses ILTC program participants’ satisfaction through conducting surveys or interviews.

7. Prepares reports using program assessment data for each completed ILTC program for the formulation and improvement of marketing strategy.

8. Facilitates access by supporting the application, admission, enrollment, and orientation of international students at MSU.

9. Represents MSU internationally in establishing and maintaining relationships with universities, high schools, businesses, organizations, recruiting agents, and professional associations that are current or potential sources for program participants in international education and training programs.

10. Serves as the primary liaison between the ILTC and international students, provides language translation, cultural guidance, and ongoing support to help students adapt culturally and have a safe and successful academic experience at MSU.

11. Assists in creation and implementation of customized training programs for existing and potential ILTC partners, including curriculum development, course content, and budget management, based on the demand.

12. Coordinates program arrangements, academic advisory, and cultural support for ILTC program participants in coordination with the appropriate academic departments, administrative offices, and external organizations in the local community.

13. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the supervisor.

14. Helps ensure the overall success and growth of MSU by performing all other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION

The Outreach and Marketing Coordinator, ILTC supervises full-time and part-time staff, graduate assistants, and student workers.
