GENERAL FUNCTION
The Director, Student Support Services – WP is responsible for the supervision of student Counseling Services and the Autism Support Can Empower New Directions (ASCEND) program, an inclusive college program for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or similar neurodiverse diagnosis who are transitioning out of high school. Student Support Services are provided to promote students’ personal development and well-being through support programs designed to meet their personal needs. This position involves supervision of professional and support staff, budget administration, and formulation of unit policies and procedures.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A master's degree in psychology, counseling, or mental health discipline is required. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.
Experience: At least two years of experience in a university/college counseling center or related mental health agency is required. Experience in administrative work required, preference within a university counseling center. Experience working with advocacy agencies and organizations is preferred.
Licensure: Must be professionally licensed in the mental health field in Missouri.
Skills: Excellent organizational, management, budgetary, and leadership skills are required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others are required. Computer literacy and electronic records software experience are required. The ability to manage and complete tasks in a timely manner is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides interaction and communication with other departments of the University by coordinating the services of Student Support Services.2. Ensures financial responsibility of the unit by preparing the budget and supervising all expenditures.
3. Promotes the personal development and psychological well-being of students by providing counseling on an individual, couple, or group basis.
4. Develops, implements, operates, and evaluates the Student Support Services strategic plan.
5. Partners with admissions to recruit students to the ASCEND program by providing updated information about the program, coordinating appropriate recruitment locations with recruitment support from admissions counselors.
6. Oversees the program, eligibility, and application criteria for recruitment and admission of students to the ASCEND program.
7. Provides effective and appropriate services by planning, organizing, and implementing new counseling, training, and educational outreach programs.
8. Ensures that the needs of students are addressed in emergency situations by coordinating and/or providing crisis intervention services during office hours and after hours as needed.
9. Provides input to other units of the University by serving on University committees; including but not limited to the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT).
10. Provides supervision and support for training experiences for Student Support Services staff.
11. Provides monitoring of clinical records to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements for clinical records.
12. Communicates the function and mission of Student Support Services by meeting with students, faculty and administrative groups of the University and the greater community. Acts as program liaison for community and donor interactions.
13. Provides for continuity of care by recruiting, selecting, training, and supervising Student Support Services personnel.
14. Compiles statistics for annual reports and other reporting requirements.
15. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development seminars, and attending training and/or courses as required by Vice Chancellor of Student Services and obtaining Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as required by state licensing and regulatory boards.
16. Contributes to the overall success of Student Support Services by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Vice Chancellor of Student Services.
SUPERVISION
The Director, Student Support Services – WP supervises full-time employees, student employees, and volunteers as assigned.
