GENERAL FUNCTION

The Distinguished Professor is a member of the ranked faculty with the highest academic rank, who has a clearly established a commitment to sustaining a record of exemplary intellectual/creative accomplishments necessary to maintain a national and/or international reputation. The Distinguished Professor will also demonstrate excellent performance in teaching and service. The Distinguished Professor's teaching responsibilities are assigned by the academic department head or school director and may include serving as an academic advisor. The Distinguished Professor engages in scholarly activities beyond those associated with teaching and is expected to demonstrate professional productivity in research, based upon the availability of resources and consistent with the mission of the University.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum acceptable qualifications for the position of Distinguished Professor are prescribed in the Faculty Handbook. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Distinguished Professor are assigned by the academic Department Head/School Director. Positions associated with this position classification may be located in facilities requiring the position to be designated “sensitive” as defined by University policy.

SUPERVISION

The Distinguished Professor receives administrative supervision from the Department Head/School Director and may exercise supervision of graduate assistants, undergraduate majors, or student employees.
