GENERAL FUNCTION
The Director of Operations, Athletic & Entertainment Facilities directs the daily operations of Missouri State Athletics & Entertainment facilities, including Great Southern Bank Arena, Plaster Stadium, Hammons Student Center, the Betty and Bobby Allison Athletic Center, and future Athletics & Entertainment facilities. Responsibilities include planning, organizing, and supervising facility operations, maintenance, custodial services, technical production, event setups and conversions, facility inspections, preventative maintenance programs, inventory management, purchasing, and vendor relationships.
The Director of Operations is responsible for supervising full-time, part-time, student, and temporary employees assigned to operations and production while ensuring Athletics & Entertainment facilities remain safe, clean, efficient, and event-ready for intercollegiate athletics, concerts, commencements, university events, facility rentals, and special events. The position collaborates with University departments, contractors, promoters, and third-party vendors to ensure successful facility operations and event execution.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor's degree is required. A Master's degree is preferred.
Experience: At least one year of experience in public assembly facility management, athletics facility operations, venue management, or building operations is required. Supervisory experience managing full-time and part-time employees is preferred. Experience overseeing maintenance, custodial operations, technical production, purchasing, vendor management, and event operations is preferred.
Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, leadership ability, and organizational skills are required. Skill in Microsoft Office and facility scheduling software is required. Knowledge of facility operations, preventative maintenance practices, event operations, building systems, purchasing, inventory management, and vendor coordination is preferred. Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and customer service skills are required. The ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to unexpected operational situations is required.
Other: The scope of the position requires frequent evening, weekend, and holiday work and the ability to respond to facility emergencies outside normal business hours.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Directs the daily operations of Missouri State Athletics & Entertainment facilities by overseeing maintenance, custodial services, technical production, event operations, facility readiness, and building systems to ensure facilities are safe, functional, and prepared for athletic competitions, concerts, commencements, university events, rentals, and special events.2. Supervises, trains, schedules, evaluates, and provides leadership for full-time, part-time, temporary, and student employees assigned to operations, maintenance, custodial, technical production, and event conversion responsibilities.
3. Plans and oversees facility setups, event conversions, overnight changeovers, strikes, and post-event restoration activities to ensure facilities are prepared for scheduled events and daily operations.
4. Develops and administers preventative maintenance programs and coordinates facility repairs, inspections, equipment maintenance, and operational improvements in collaboration with University departments and outside contractors.
5. Oversees operational purchasing, inventory control, and vendor relationships, including custodial supplies, maintenance materials, production equipment, furniture, tools, and operational resources. Reviews invoices and assists with monitoring operational budgets.
6. Coordinates operational logistics with Athletics staff, Event Management, University departments, ticketing, concessions, security, public safety, contractors, promoters, touring personnel, and other stakeholders to ensure successful event execution.
7. Develops staffing plans and operational procedures to maximize efficiency while maintaining high standards of customer service, facility appearance, and operational excellence.
8. Ensures compliance with University policies, NCAA regulations, ADA requirements, fire and life safety regulations, and applicable local, state, and federal requirements.
9. Assists with planning and implementation of capital improvement projects, facility upgrades, and operational initiatives designed to improve Athletics & Entertainment facilities.
10. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, conferences, and training required by the General Manager, Athletic and Entertainment Facilities or the University.
11. Abides by and complies with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and Conference USA rules, academic standards, requirements, and policies of the University, and all guidelines and policies of the Athletics Department. Reports any concerns regarding compromise or violation of rules, standards, guidelines, or policies to the Director of Athletics or the General Manager, Athletic and Entertainment Facilities.
12. Contributes to the overall success of Athletic & Entertainment Facilities by performing other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION
The Director of Operations, Athletic & Entertainment Facilities supervises full-time operations staff, technical production staff, maintenance personnel, custodial employees, graduate assistants, student employees, temporary employees, and part-time event staff assigned to Athletic & Entertainment facilities.
