GENERAL FUNCTION

The Assistant Director, Student Engagement – Transfer and Commuter Student Programs provides the ongoing support and leadership required to develop, implement, supervise, and evaluate a comprehensive transfer and commuter student life program by supporting students’ educational, intellectual, social, cultural, and recreational activities. The Assistant Director, Student Engagement – Transfer and Commuter Student Programs creates, develops, and organizes programs for adult and transfer students, advises adult and transfer student organizations, and regularly assesses program success.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree is required. A Master's degree in Educational Administration, College Student Personnel, or other related field is preferred.

Experience: One year of professional work in higher education is required.   Demonstrated experience with co-curricular learning experiences, student leadership programming, organizational development, initiating, planning, executing, and assessing student programs and services, and measuring student-learning outcomes is preferred. Experience incorporating multi-cultural and multi-perspective experiences for students that are needed to succeed in a global, broadly diverse society is preferred.

Skills: Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required. Computer literacy is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Other: The scope of the position frequently requires attendance at evening and/or weekend activities, meetings, seminars, and workshops.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provides outreach and support services for the transfer and commuter student population.
2. Plans, develops, implements, and assesses a robust slate of educational and social programs for the transfer and commuter student populations.

3. Utilizes research, best practices, and assessment tools to augment the experiences of commuter and transfer students.

4. Represents Missouri State at other events and committees as a resource that supports commuter and transfer students.

5. Serves as a partner to the Transfer Student Learning Community housed in Residence Life, Housing and Dining Services.

6. Coordinates programs and services designed to meet the specific needs of transfer students, including, but not limited to Transfer Student Interest Groups and Transfer Student Appreciation Week and serves as an advisor to Tau Sigma, the national honor society for Transfer Students.

7. Develops content for and distributes Bear Tracks, the monthly Transfer Student newsletter.

8. Assists with the coordination of transfer student orientation activities in collaboration with student leaders and professional staff across the Division of Student Affairs.

9. Creates and maintains web and social media presence for transfer and commuter student communication and support.

10. Determines community partners who can assist in creating a vibrant student experience for commuter students, cultivating working relationships to further advance the student experience in order to increase connectivity to Missouri State.

11. Attends Transfer Council meetings.

12. Coordinates programs and services designed to meet the specific needs of commuter students, including but not limited to Commuter Round Table Programs, Commuter Appreciation Week, and the Commuter Ambassador Program that allows upper level students to provide peer support and mentorship to commuter students.

13. Develops and implements a communication strategy for students residing off-campus regarding student advising and success, diversity and inclusion, and health and wellness, including overseeing the monthly Commuter Newsletter.

14. Coordinates a commuter life session during fall, spring, and summer new student orientations.

15. Advises the Commuter Student Association, a planning board for commuter students.

16. Determines community partners who can assist in creating a vibrant student experience for commuter students, cultivating working relationships to further advance the student experience in order to increase connectivity with Missouri State.

17. Manages financial resources, within budget limits, in accordance with University guidelines under the guidance and supervision of the Associate Director of the Plaster Student Union/Director of Student Engagement and the assistance of the Accounting Specialist by planning, developing, and monitoring assigned budgets.

18. Serves as a dedicated staff member in the Office of Student Engagement (OSE) by attending regular OSE staff meetings and Plaster Student Union (PSU)administrative staff meetings.

19. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

20. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Associate Director of the Plaster Student Union/Director of Student Engagement.

21. Supports the overall operation of the Plaster Student Union and contributes to the department's success by performing other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION

The Assistant Director, Student Engagement – Transfer and Commuter Student Programs is supervised by the Associate Director, Plaster Student Union/Director of Student Engagement.
