GENERAL FUNCTION

Director of Project Communications -DEI, serves as the chief of staff to the Chief Diversity Officer/Assistant to the President. This positions oversees the Chief Diversity Officer schedule, facilitates access to the Chief Diversity Officer, and coordinates projects and initiatives as assigned by the Chief Diversity Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree is required. A degree in marketing, social sciences, business, management, data analysis or related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.

Experience: Three to five years of experience working in a high-level administrative support role in an institution of higher education is required. Experience in website development and the production of promotional communication and materials as well as experience interacting, engaging and uplifting underrepresented populations is required.

 Skills: The ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, reason analytically, and work with people possessing differing levels of technical knowledge is required. Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite is required. The ability to understand, interpret, and analyze data and the business process needs of integrated functions in a complex administrative business system is required.

Competency in the use of query tools and applications software is required. The ability to become proficient in creating and maintaining database queries is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. An understanding of accessibility issues related to disabled users is preferred. Completion of a certified diversity professional program preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Facilitates the ability of the Chief Diversity Officer/Assistant to the President to manage executive functions by assisting in prioritizing schedules and coordinating research, projects, and initiatives.

2. Facilitates access to the Chief Diversity Officer/Assistant to the President, Assistant Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion, and the Assistant Vice President for Faculty Development and Inclusive Excellence as well as coordinates projects and initiatives as assigned by the Chief Diversity Officer/Assistant to the President.

3. Represents the Division for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at internal and external meetings as needed and assists in relationship building in the community.

4. Keeps abreast of university and community events and issues relative to the Division for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion’s involvement.

5. Works directly with the Chief Diversity Officer/Assistant to the President and campus leaders in a collaborative manner to execute plans and projects to support achievement of strategic plan goals.

6. Assesses operational priorities, recommends solutions and research various issues regarding the Division for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to present a thorough analysis of short- and long-term goals.

7. Serves as the principle point of contact for the Chief Diversity Officer/Assistant to the President, advisory councils, university administration, and external community partners.

COMMUNICATION

1. Coordinates communications, events, correspondence, and serves as a liaison to a variety of internal and external constituents, including important policy/compliance matters, action items and correspondence necessary for the smooth and coordinated operation of the Division for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

2. Reviews, researches and summarizes a variety of administrative information and data, and prepares related reports and/or responses for key personnel on-and off-campus, including key stakeholders at the university and in the community.

3. Anticipates and tracks critical dates, events and organizational issues for follow up with appropriate parties to ensure deadlines are met and the Chief Diversity Officer/Assistant to the President is informed.

4. Communicates important policy/compliance matters, action items and correspondence necessary for the smooth and coordinated operation of the Division for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

5. Compiles information and data into reports and presentations for the Chief Diversity Officer/Assistant to the President, and the office of the Division of Diversity Equity and Inclusion.

6. Reviews, researches and summarizes a variety of administrative information and data, and prepares related reports and/or communications for key stakeholders at the university and in the community.

SUPERVISION

The Director of Project Communication, DEI, is supervised by the Chief Diversity Officer/Assistant to the President.  This position supervises the Executive Assistant IV, five GA’s and at least one part-time employee on a regular basis.
